All Russian inventors went through indifference and hardly promoted their innovative ideas, which were actively picked up by the West and introduced into their economy. The same story happened to the innovative mechanic Fedor Abramovich Blinov, who came out of the people, who developed a home-made caterpillar tractor in 1877, which radically changed the agricultural technology not only in Russia, but throughout the world. His invention became the basis of tank building and was widely used in the technical equipment of heavy industry and space technology, landed on the moon.
The first caterpillar tractor was a platform for a locomotive moving on endless caterpillar rails. Fyodor Abramovich called it just that - a caterpillar car. The caterpillar tracks were made up of small sections and closed, forming a continuous circle. Given the Russian off-road, this type of transport had advantages over both wheeled vehicles and trains, as it could move in any direction on any road, as well as on swampy off-road.
The condition of the road does not matter to him, because the caterpillar tractor rests with its entire mass on a wide belt, which reduces the amount of pressure on the ground. This unique invention deserved attention, but government officials treated the nugget inventor without due attention. Small local merchants tried to attract interest in the invention and even petitioned for a patent for the invention, but things did not go any further.
In gratitude for the efforts, the inventor designed one of them a self-propelled tug and metal agricultural implements instead of wooden plows and dryers, and the first trailer, representing the same caterpillar tractor, only combined with others in one chain (like a train). Thus, steam transport appeared, having several engines and reaching a power of several tens of horsepower.
True, all these steam engines were not used independently. They were designed as an auxiliary mechanism for a horse team. Three years later, F. A. Blinov invents the first oil engine and only now designs an absolutely self-propelled caterpillar tractor.
The inventor did not have the money to develop this complex mechanism, so Blinov began to engage in entrepreneurial activities himself. He designed fire extinguishing pumps and began to manufacture them. In wooden Russia, fires happened all the time, so there were many orders for pumps. He invested the proceeds in his main project - an advanced oil tracked tractor.
Over time, he equipped it with a cabin for a mechanic who is at the same time a fireman, a driver, a brakeand stopping the vehicle. Who showed genuine interest in his tractors were German entrepreneurs. They constantly asked to sell them a caterpillar tractor. But he did not do this, continuing to improve the device, he came to the invention of an internal combustion engine, which made the expensive engines of R. Diesel unnecessary.
Later, Blinov opened his own production for the production of caterpillar tractors on oil engines. After his death, the children did not continue his work. But in Western countries, the industrial production of caterpillar tractors began.
