When and why you need to change the refrigerant

According to the recommendations of the car manufacturer, the coolant in the engine should be replaced every 75 thousand kilometers, or 3 years of operation, regardless of how much the car has passed. In addition, the refrigerant must be replaced if the car owner finds signs that it has lost its properties, changed color or consistency.

If this is not done, the engine will run the risk of overheating. Moreover, low-quality coolant provokes scale deposits in the channels of the cooling jacket, in the main and heating radiators.

How much antifreeze is needed for the "tens"

When buying antifreeze for replacement, you need to know how much it will take. Depending on the type of engine and radiator, the required volume of coolant for the VAZ-2110 is 7-8 liters. It is best to immediately take a 10-liter canister, and what remains is used for topping up. Believe me, someday you will definitely have to add refrigerant, and then these liter or two residues will come in handy.

Which antifreeze to choose

It is necessary to buy antifreeze only in specialized stores, and give preference to those manufacturers whose reputation is beyond doubt. As for the choice, it is better to use the type and brand of coolant, which, again, is recommended by the car manufacturer.

Take, for example, Russian-made antifreeze A-40M, or A-65M. Both of these fluids are ideal for any "tens" engine. The refrigerant marking letters have the following designation: A - automotive, M - modernized.

The numbers are the freezing point of antifreeze. There is also a concentrate on sale. It has the designation "Tosol AM". All of the listed fluids, which is important, are produced in accordance with GOST 28084-89

Is there a difference in the processes of draining antifreeze in eight- and sixteen-valve engines

There is a difference, and it is significant. The fact is that the "tens" engines have a different design. In terms of draining antifreeze, the VAZ-2110 8 valves are more convenient than a dozen with a sixteen-valve. At the first, the coolant drain plug is located on the front of the cylinder block. In order to get therebefore it, you do not need to either drive the car into a viewing hole, or remove the protection. But for sixteen-valve power units, the plug is located at the bottom, and even can be closed by the starter, so before draining the antifreeze from the VAZ-2110, you will need to drive the car into a pit (overpass), remove both the protection and the starter. Let's consider this process in more detail for each of the engines.

Drain the antifreeze on the eight-valve

Required tools and facilities:

• keys for 10 and 13;
• funnel with hose (can be made from a plastic bottle);
• capacity for collecting old refrigerant (canister, bucket);
• additional capacity of 2-3 liters (you can cut a plastic bottle);
• dry cloth.

Before draining the antifreeze from the VAZ-2110 block, it is necessary to install the car in such a way that its rear part is slightly raised. To do this, you can put the car downhill, or drive the rear wheels onto the curb. This will allow the coolant to drain faster.

It is also advisable to remove the negative terminal from the battery, especially if you are dealing with an injection engine. Then follow this algorithm:

1. Unscrew the cap of the expansion tank.
2. We substitute a funnel under the drain hole and lead the hose through the engine protection to any convenient place where you can put a container to collect the refrigerant.
3. Using a 10 key, carefully unscrew the drain plug and wait until the coolant drains.
4. After that, we substitute an additional container underradiator cap.
5. Unscrew the plug and drain the rest of the refrigerant.
6. When all the liquid drains, we tighten the plugs and we can start pouring new antifreeze.

How to drain antifreeze from VAZ-2110 injector (16 valves)

Required tools and facilities:

• keys for 10 and 13;
• 8-10 liter capacity (canister or bucket);
• dry cloth.

In order to drain the antifreeze, the VAZ-2110 (16 valves) must be driven into a viewing hole or overpass. Further work is performed in the following order:

1. Disconnect the negative wire on the battery.
2. Unscrew the plug on the expansion tank.
3. We get down into the pit, with a 10 key we unscrew the bolts that fix the engine protection. Removing protection.
4. Unscrew the drain plug on the radiator, after substituting a container under it. We wait until all the antifreeze in the heat exchanger drains.
5. If in your car the gearbox is driven by a cable, before draining the antifreeze from the VAZ-2110, you will have to dismantle the starter. The drain plug is right below it. To do this, disconnect the wire block from the retractor relay connector, remove the protective cap from the positive wire fastening nut, unscrew it, remove the wire, and then unscrew the three bolts securing the starting device. After that, we substitute the container under the cork, unscrew it and drain the coolant. If the gearbox is traction controlled, the starter does not need to be removed.

Is it allmerged

Removing all the refrigerant from the system is quite problematic, because it is a whole complex of channels, tubes and hoses. In general, this is not required during the usual routine replacement, but if, for example, you are going to replace antifreeze with antifreeze, or vice versa, or flush the cooling system, you will have to try to drive the liquid out of the engine to the maximum. But how to completely drain the antifreeze? VAZ-2110 is not such a difficult car for this. This can be done using a conventional car compressor, or, in extreme cases, a pump.

We take a compressor, connect its hose through some homemade adapter to one of the “nipples” on the expansion tank, after removing the hose from it and “muffling” it, and begin to pump air into the system. Almost all the liquid remaining in the hoses, engine cooling jacket, radiator tanks will come out through the drain holes.

You also need to fill in correctly

Now that you know how to drain the antifreeze from the VAZ-2110, you can talk about how to fill in fresh refrigerant correctly. This process is much simpler than the previous one, but there are some nuances here.

The main task facing the owner of the car, pouring coolant into the system, is to prevent the occurrence of air jams in it. No, they are not dangerous for the engine, but highly undesirable, especially in winter, when the operation of the “stove” is necessary. Plugs create obstacles for the normal circulation of the refrigerant, and in addition, reduce its volume in the system. So it turns out that we filled in 6-7 liters, and the “stove” does not heat up, asshould warm up. And troubleshooting begins.

But you just need to disconnect the hose from the throttle assembly when pouring antifreeze, and fill it until coolant flows out of it. After that, we put the hose on the fitting, continue to fill in the liquid to the level. When it is reached, without closing the plug of the expansion tank, we start the engine, wait until it warms up to operating temperature, and “pump” the hoses going to the cooling radiator, periodically squeezing them with our hands. Air, if there is any, will definitely come out. You will only have to add liquid to the level.
