Modern tire factories have long abandoned the production of tubular car tires. A tubeless tire has its advantages and disadvantages, but there are still more positives.

Most importantly, they do not have a chamber inside, which allows for simple repairs without disassembling the wheel itself. In addition, in some cases, it can be left on the car, which significantly reduces the repair time and the effort expended on it.

The next advantage of such tires is the pressure that is retained in case of minor damage to the rubber and allows you to get to the nearest workshop. There are also frequent situations when a foreign object that has pierced the protector clogs the hole formed. In this case, the car owner may not even notice the damage and drive on a punctured wheel, which will savenormal pressure until the orifice enlarges.

Disadvantages of tubeless tires

The disadvantages include the fact that with a strong impact there is a chance of depressurization of a tubeless tire. Without the special skills and tools that every master of a tire shop owns, it will be impossible to eliminate such a problem. If you do not have a compressor at hand that is equipped with a "pneumatic shock", all attempts to pump up the wheel will be in vain. The best option is to put a spare tire or "dock".

How to find a puncture

If there is a foreign object in the tire that caused your troubles, then you can find it without much difficulty. But it often happens that the tire loses pressure, but there are no visible reasons. So, it's time to make a soapy solution. It's fairly easy to make.

All you need is soap, detergent or shampoo, and a container of water that will fit the wheel. After immersing the tire in the solution, slowly scroll it and look closely where the bubbles will come from.

Sealing

Once a puncture is found, you can use a special sealant sold in almost every car shop. Do not rush to immediately remove a foreign object. Use the sealant in the following sequence:

  1. Remove the valve cap.
  2. Connect the can.
  3. Pump the sealant through the valve into the tire.
  4. Remove the item that caused the puncture.
  5. Inflate the wheel.

It is worth noting that the pressure inside the tire must be more than one atmosphere, otherwise the sealant will not help you. Before manipulation, the wheel must be pumped up.

Remember that this type of repair is temporary. Vulcanization with sealant will only last a hundred kilometers, but this is enough for you to get to the workshop. At the same time, you will have to observe the speed limit, moving at a speed of no more than 60 km / h. If you drive faster, the sealant may fall apart and the wheel will begin to lose pressure again.

Prevention or repair

Tires are filled with preventive sealants until they are punctured. The centrifugal force that occurs during the movement of the car contributes to its uniform distribution over the entire surface. These types of sealants are used to protect steel and polymer cords from possible corrosion, which often occurs as a result of rubber damage and moisture and air ingress.

In tires treated with a sealant on the inside, oxidation is significantly slowed down, which adversely affects the composition of rubber. Having a unique chemical composition, the sealant fills the pores and places of delamination of the tire, smoothing them out. And in case of rubber overheating, it effectively cools it.

Repair sealants are mainly sold in bottles, in the form of aerosols. They are designed to maintain the minimum pressure inside the tire, which will be enough to get to the tire shop.

More reliable - harness repairs

You can get more reliability from repairing a tire with a harness. Have you found a puncture in a tubeless tire that does not contain any foreign objects? So, you can repair the tire with a tourniquet. This will require more effort than with sealant, but this method is of better quality and provides greater strength.

Installing a simple harness

To repair a tire with a harness, it is necessary to lower the pressure (deflate) the wheel to 0.5 atm. Then we take a spiral awl and insert it into the puncture, passing through the tire through, rotating clockwise in parallel. Such a manipulation clears the puncture site and separates the cord, and also frees up space for the harness itself. The spiral awl is not removed until the harness is installed.

Having cleaned and prepared the hole, we take the next tool for repairing tires with bundles - a special installation awl. The tourniquet is captured in the center, and then pushed into the puncture by 2/3. After fixing it, remove the tool with a sharp movement.

If all the manipulations are done correctly, then the tourniquet will be securely fixed in the rubber, slipping through the eye of the awl. After making sure that there is no more pressure leakage from the puncture site, the remaining tips sticking out can be cut off. Now the wheel needs to be pumped up and installed on the car.

Having repaired a tire with a tourniquet, you don't have to wait for the glue to dry. You can continue driving immediately after installing the wheel.

Cord and rubber

Manymotorists are trying to figure out which harnesses are best for repairing tubeless tires. The most common are cord and rubber harnesses. It is about them that we will try to find out in more detail.

Cord harnesses, which are based on nylon fiber impregnated with butyl rubber, have gained great popularity. Such a tourniquet does not need pre-treatment with glue and is quickly installed using the method given above. It comes with all the necessary tools in the kit.

The main advantage of such repairs is simplicity and low cost. The whole set will cost you around $2. The disadvantages of repairing tires with nylon tow are its fragility and cord damage. After a couple of months, it will dry out, and the wheel will start to deflate again.

Most tire shops have long decided which band is best for tire repair, giving their preference to a rubber band with an adhesive sheath. Its application is very similar to the previous one, but there are some differences.

So, when repairing, it is not recommended to use an awl, which is made in the form of a rasp. It does not separate the cord threads, but only damages them. The sharp ends of broken wire can damage the harness being installed.

When repairing tires with a tourniquet, it is smeared with a special glue that reacts with the adhesive sheath. This harness is the most reliable, but the lack of a reinforcing patch from the inside, as well as a damaged cord, do not allow us to guarantee that the wheel will not depressurize one day in the mostwrong moment.
