In 2004, in the secret laboratories of AvtoVAZ OJSC (in which, however, both doors and windows are open around the clock), a concept car Lada 2116 was created. The management of the auto giant continued to keep secrets until the opening of the summer Moscow Motor Show. Then a fundamentally new sedan with a powerful 112-horsepower engine and many newfangled options was presented to the general public. It is understandable, the car had to be made especially valuable, since the cost of the project to create the Lada 2116 Silhouette brand was approaching $1 billion.

The car turned out to be large and even a little heavy. This was motivated by assumptions that a population boom was about to begin in Russia and that large families would need large cars. But the question arises as to whether a large family needs a speed of 200 km / h, indicated on the speedometer and really possible on good Russian roads. After all, the price of a car is based on speed indicators and engine power.

However, the car is not to blame for the fact that some pseudo-political disputes have once again started around it. Technically, Lada 2116 is an indisputably successful engineering development, a car with a frontdrive, disc brakes, both front and rear with ventilation, with hydraulic booster and ABS, economical engine, average consumption - only 7 liters of AI-95 gasoline, good tire parameters - 195 / 65R15 or 205 / 55R16. Manual transmission 5 gears. Finally, ultra-modern headlight optics and very stylish taillights.

Ten years to build up, and in 2015 AvtoVAZ should launch the Lada 2116 series. Such assumptions were made at a press conference in 2005. Well, so far everything is going according to plan. Something has since been added to the project from partnership agreements with the French Renault, something was advised from General Motors, the general line of Lada 2116 is already being traced, the lineup will include both a sedan (2116 VAZ) and a station wagon (2117 VAZ) and hatchback (2118 VAZ). The latter has already passed the presentation, and very successfully, the engine volume has become less by 0.2 liters, and the power has remained the same - 112 hp. And the gearbox received 6 gears, although why so many hatchbacks is unclear.

A lot of attention in the process of developing the project is currently being paid to the brakes of the new Lada. The technically complex replacement of brake pads is simplified, for this purpose a universal tool is created that allows you to change them literally in the field. For two years now they have been trying to connect electronics to evenly distribute efforts on the brake components, the code name of the system is EBD. A mechanism for emergency braking of the BA is also introduced. With it, Lada 2116 should stop in its tracks and, of course, get a good push in the ass fromthe next truck. Let them not yawn and keep their distance!

But the most important thing that AvtoVAZ talks about with bated breath is getting the highest score in terms of car safety in the EuroNKAP rating. Prestigious European standard that paves the way for any car that has passed the test. And if this result can be achieved using the example of Lada 2116, then 1 billion dollars was not spent in vain, the project will be completed with honor. And Lada 2116, whose price, according to economists, should not exceed 12 thousand euros, will become a family car.
