CV joint is an abbreviation for "constant velocity joint". In fact, this part is an integral part of the drive shaft of the car. On the one hand, this hinge is inserted into the hub bearing, on the other - into the differential. The main function of the CV joint is to transfer rotational energy from the engine to the drive wheels through the hub bearings.

Lifetime

Due to its simple design, the CV joint can serve without problems about 100-110 thousand kilometers. However, sooner or later this spare part fails, so every motorist should at least superficially know how to replace the inner CV joint and the outer one as well.

How can I tell if a part is broken?

Firstly, it is, of course, mileage. If, upon reaching this mileage, a characteristic crunch began to appear in the car near the front hub when the steering wheel was turned, it means that the internal or external CV joint has become faulty. controlthe state of this device can also be in place by turning the steering wheel all the way. If characteristic sounds appeared, then the fears were justified.

How to replace the right inner CV joint?

First you need to drive the car on a flat paved or concrete surface. Next, install the front part of the body on a rigid support and unscrew the nut securing the wheel hub bearing. On the right side, it will be or left, depending on the location of the broken CV joint. In general, it is recommended to change the hinges in pairs, so that later, after a couple of thousand kilometers, the same work will not be done again.

But back to work. In order to successfully remove the inner CV joint, we take a 19 mm open-end wrench and disconnect the fasteners of the ball joint, as well as the tie rod end. Next, you need to grab the brake drum or disc with your hands (depending on what type of brake system your car has) and with a sharp jerk disengage the hub from the splined tip of the shaft. At the next stage, the shock absorber strut is retracted to the side so that it does not interfere with the following work in the future. Now you need to grab the drive shaft with your hand and at the same time tap on its surface with a small hammer until it is completely removed from the gearbox gear. It is not necessary to hit very hard so as not to damage the surface of the part to be removed.

Final part of work

Next, place the inner CV joint on the workbench andclamp it in a vice. We press in the old hinge and mount a new one in its place. The shaft assembly with the new hinge is installed back into place - one end to the gearbox, the other - to the splined part of the hub. All subsequent assembly steps are performed in reverse order. When assembling devices, also pay attention to the hinge boot. If the internal CV joint has a damaged anther with deformations and microcracks, be sure to replace it. While there is a moment (all parts are dismantled), it is a sin not to take advantage of this opportunity. And if the anther has recently been replaced or has no deformations, then, of course, it is not necessary to change it to a new one.
