The car appeared as a result of creating a project for Nascar. Ford was looking for a developer who could offer an engine that could compete with the 426 in the racing series. According to the decree, the manufacturers participating in the project were required to make at least five hundred production cars and sell them through a network of dealers. After much deliberation, Ford has decided to use the model as the basis for the upgraded engine.

Directly from the assembly line of the manufacturer, the original car models are delivered to the factory, and Ford Mustang Boss is produced from them. Many changes have been added to the design of the car: the distance between the cups on the front racks has become larger, the fenders have become more convex to accommodate a large engine, the fixation points of the front beam have been changed to accommodate the exhaust system, the battery has been placed in the trunk, two stabilizers have been installed, a cutout is provided near the hood for adjustable fence siteair.

Ford Mustang Boss 429 received a power of three hundred and seventy-five liters per second and a torque of six hundred and ten nanometers, although in reality the power was more than five hundred liters per second. In order to reduce the transport tax and insurance, manufacturers and dealers noted less power.

Compared to other modifications, the Ford Mustang had almost no differences from the production car. From the outside, only the emblem on the wing stood out in front behind the wheel arch. Unfortunately, in 1970, due to the fact that the cost of fuel and production costs were increased, sales decreased, and it was decided to close the Boss 429 project. Currently, finding a similar car in the secondary market is quite difficult. In 2008, Barrett-Jackson and eBay auctions demanded more than 350 thousand dollars for the updated Ford Mustang 429.

In 1969, eight hundred and fifty nine models were produced. There were five color options to choose from (two shades of black, white, red and maroon).

Salon was offered only in black design. Each car was equipped with mechanical transmissions. The installation of an air conditioner was not feasible due to the rather large size of the engine. The Boss 429 engine was created by a process of modifications to the Ford 385 power plant. The engine compartment of the stock Ford Mustang was not enoughwide to install Boss 429.

The decision was made to hire Dearborn-based Cara Kraft, who previously adapted the Ford Mustangs 428 Cobra Jet Mach 1 to accommodate the upgraded engine and has worked under contract with Ford on several projects, including the Ford Mustang Boss 302 for racing competition. Each car was supplied with a mechanical transmission. Installation of air conditioning was not possible due to the engine with a rather large size. In 1970, four hundred and ninety-nine such models were created. Added new body color options. They began to paint it with orange, green, coral shades. For the interior, a choice of black or black and white colors was provided. The cars had a matte black air intake on the hood, regardless of body color. Air conditioning never arrived.
