The VAZ-210934 Tarzan is the first Russian SUV produced in a limited series from 1997 to 2006. The car is a kind of symbiosis of "Lada" and "Niva", while showing good results in cross-country ability and dynamics. Consider the parameters and features of this vehicle.

General information

After the collapse of the USSR, the post-Soviet space began to massively receive goods from abroad, including cars. Many ordinary people were very surprised by the fact that used foreign cars of the 80s are more comfortable and reliable than new domestic vehicles. The domestic SUV is a serial Samara, built on an elevator chassis of the VAZ-2121 modification. However, tuned SUVs were far from affordable for everyone. The price of the car was almost twice as high as the standard "nines" and "eights". In this regard, during the mass production, only about three thousand copies were produced in two generations.

Description

The main platform on the car VAZ-210934 "Tarzan" is used from the "Niva". Since the wheelbase is 26 centimeters shorter, the designers had to lengthen the frame and increase the length of the cardan shafts. In all other respects, the node remained unchanged.

The upper part is a body from domestic hatchbacks VAZ-2109 and 2108 with some modifications. To reduce the load, they are mounted on rubber cushions, which partially level out shock vibrations transmitted from a rigid frame. The gaps between the upper and lower parts were hidden behind plastic lining on the sides and enlarged bumpers in front and behind. The wings have also been updated as the size of the wheel arches has increased.

The presence of all-wheel drive led to a change in the configuration of the central tunnel in the cabin. To simplify this task, the developers simply took the Niva's skin and transplanted it into the G8's interior. At the same time, the transmission levers and handouts were placed side by side. Everything else in the interior remained unchanged.

Original carburettor engine mounted onVAZ-2108, for a new car was clearly rather weak. For this model weighing 1.12 tons and with all-wheel drive, power units of 1.6 liters with a capacity of 80 horsepower or a 1.7-liter engine with a power of 85 “horses” (from modifications VAZ-21214 and 2130) were used.

The transmission, together with the transfer case, was also taken from the Niva. The node is a five-speed mechanics with gear ratios matched to two drive axles and an updated type of final drive. Improved aerodynamic performance allowed a slight increase in speed (up to 150 km/h) and reduced fuel consumption.

The main difference between the car in question is the suspension. The front "Samara" part remained practically unchanged. But the rear analogue has been seriously modified and improved. Most of the elements were used from the "Niva", however, the configuration of the node became independent, which had a positive effect on the smoothness of the ride. The rear brakes were made disc, and this was “a curiosity” for domestic cars.

Second Generation

In 1999, in addition to the VAZ-210934, the development of an analogue based on the Niva with station wagon and hatchback bodies from the VAZ-2111 began. Vehicle differences from the first generation:

• New 2111 or 2112 series body with tubular steel bodywork on the sides and front of the bumpers.
• Wheels increased to 15 inches.
• New engines: carburetor unit for 1.7 liters with a capacity of 81 liters. With. and a 1.8 liter engine with a power of 86 “horses”.
• Wasa limited edition of "Tarzanov" with a diesel engine of 1.8 liters from "Peugeot" (1.9 l, 80 hp) was released.

Despite the efforts of designers and marketers, the considered modifications have not received much distribution among the population.

Flaws

The poor sales rating and popularity of the VAZ-210934 and its follower were influenced by a number of factors:

1. A rather clumsy attempt by engineers to connect the incompatible. In terms of cross-country ability, the Tarzan was inferior to the standard Niva, not to mention the upgraded versions and foreign analogues.
2. Due to the increase in height, the handling and aerodynamic qualities of the vehicle have significantly decreased, especially at a decent speed.
3. Cost. The price of a car was twice as high as that of the "nine". For such an amount it was possible to purchase a used foreign SUV, the comfort and characteristics of which were an order of magnitude higher.

In their comments, the owners of the car in question respond ambiguously. They point out some of the advantages of the machine, but do not forget about the obvious disadvantages. Since the serial production of the vehicle is not carried out, it can only be purchased on the secondary market, and you will have to try very hard.
