Any design innovation can update the look of an old motorcycle so much that if you don't look closely, you might not recognize it. Such cardinal changes in appearance include painting. Yes, a new color, varnish, overflow - and here it is, a completely new motorcycle. And if you add your own "gadgets", then the iron horse will become just an individuality. But is it possible to paint a motorcycle with your own hands, or is it worth paying a workshop? This and other questions can be answered below.

First of all - paint, but then the technique

It is paint that is a component with a capital letter, not “straight hands”, but paint. Because a clumsy person with an expensive color scheme can get an attractive result, and a master with no idea what will not get anything good. Therefore, it is so important to understand the recipe and ingredients.

There are small factors to consider when buying paint. First, cost. It doesn't even need to be explained. The cheaper this design solution comes out, the better. Secondly, the technique and complexity of applying the material. Sometimes it happensso that it is simply impossible to apply paint with your own hands. It bursts, then peels off, in general, a special environment and special tools are needed. Thirdly, drying time. This factor is also worth paying attention to. After all, not every material dries quickly and evenly, for some options it is worth creating special conditions.

Types of paints

Painting a motorcycle usually involves the use of three types of paint. Each of them has its own qualities and features. Which one to choose is up to each individual. So, the first type of coloring material is nitro-enamel. It is one of the most common. Why? Because nitro enamel paints are the cheapest. But, as always, a small price is not an indicator of quality. First the pros. NE (abbreviation, often found on packages) dries very quickly. Just ten to thirty minutes at room temperature and the paint will dry. This is a fairly good quality, because it allows you to speed up the process.

Nitro enamel material is easy to apply. In addition, nitro paint (another name for NE) has a huge range of colors. All this favorably distinguishes nitro-enamel paint, if not for one minus: poor resistance to chemical and mechanical influences. NE does not tolerate spilled gasoline, blows from road stones. Alkyd paint is the exact opposite of nitro paint. It is expensive, does not have a variety of colors. But impact resistant. And the middle option is acrylic. All parameters are at the average level, including the price. Therefore, acrylicthe material is suitable for painting at home.

It's no secret that before painting any surface, it must first be carefully processed. What to do? First, it is worth removing all the parts that will subsequently be subject to this procedure. When all the details are laid out in their places, it is necessary to start processing. Painting a motorcycle begins with turning the parts with sandpaper. After all, the surface must be perfectly flat. Front of work ready? Then the next step is the primer.

A bottled automotive primer works well for this procedure. This white mixture should be applied with high quality, because the result is already being laid. Everything is ready - time to paint. Acrylic material dries quickly. The paint must be laid in several layers. The final fixing procedure is varnishing. The varnish will add shine and keep the paint in its original form. Again, you can use materials in cylinders. Their advantage is ease of use.

The new design will not cost you a pretty penny. All materials are inexpensive (about 200 rubles for each can). The main thing is your own work.
