Installation

Installing a screw suspension is easy with your own hands. It does not require any specialized equipment. A small list of simple tools is enough, including a set of sockets and wrenches of the appropriate diameter, polyhedrons and sprockets, lubricants, two jacks (preferably hydraulic).

It is recommended to read the machine's instructions beforehand to find out the location of the mounting bolts. Moreover, there, most likely, the technology for changing shock absorbers is also indicated.

Begin work on the rear suspension.

  • The vehicle must be parked on a level surface.
  • Next, remove the wheel, after raising the car.
  • Then it along with the spare tireput under the car and lower it.
  • Supporting the beam with a jack, unscrew the bolts.
  • Shock absorber removed.
  • After dismantling both shock absorbers, the beam can be lowered.
  • Shock absorber pads should be replaced if worn.
  • Before installing new shock absorbers need to be pumped.
  • It is also necessary to adjust their stiffness, since the adjustment mechanism will not be accessible after installation.
  • Next, top mounts are attached to the new shock absorbers.
  • They are bolted to the body.
  • Springs are replaced.
  • Then the car is jacked up until it hits the shock absorber bolt hole.
  • After that, the bolts are tightened and the jacks are removed.

In the process of installation, it is necessary to lubricate the threads and also tighten the locknut.

The technology for replacing the front shock absorbers is the same. Just keep in mind that the bolts are located under the hood.

Settings

You can start adjusting the suspension parameters immediately after installation. This is done with screws.

The number of stats that can be changed varies for different variants. So, in some suspensions, the simultaneous adjustment of ground clearance and spring preload is provided, which allows you to change the height of the car above the road and the stiffness of the suspension. However, it is not possible to set these characteristics separately. The most advanced models have several dozen positionsstiffness, as well as adjusting other parameters such as rebound, compression, camber and castor, with each characteristic being changed separately.

Many coilover suspensions have adjustments for spring preload, camber, ride height, castor.

To adjust the first parameter, if the spring is installed separately, use two nuts (locknut and spring) on the glass or rack.

The ride height is adjusted with two nuts at the bottom of the rack. By loosening the locknut, it is changed without affecting the stiffness of the shock absorbers.

To change the camber and castor, twist the spring cup and bearing.
