Toyota at the beginning of the 20th century was at the peak of popularity in its country. In Japan at that time, inexpensive and large sedans were in demand, under the hoods of which powerful engines were hidden. Models such as Mark or Toyota Verossa have become true legends. But if even a child knows about the Mark, then it is worth talking about the Verossa sedan in more detail, because it also deserves close review and attention. This article describes the history of the appearance of the car, a description of the appearance and interior, technical specifications and equipment, the general impression of the behavior of the car on the road.
The history of the car
This model appeared at the very beginning of the XXI century. Toyota Verossa was created in 2001 for the domestic market. In terms of ideology and spirit, the car is between the legendary Mark II and Chaser. The car was produced for the domestic market and was a kind of replacement for the Camry sedan, but, oddly enough, it did not receive much popularity.
The car was removed from the assembly line in 2004. But during this time, "Verossa" won the hearts of many motorists not only in Japan. Popularity,of course, not as high as that of "Mark", but still worthy of attention. What distinguished it from the calm Camry was that the Verossa had a rear-wheel drive, which immediately changed the circle of consumers and the purpose of use. As it is now customary to say in the circle of car owners, you can "heap" on Verossa. What can not be said about the calm Camry family sedan. The idea of this sedan was continued by the Mark X model in 2004.
General Description
The platform for the Toyota Verossa was completely borrowed from the Mark II sedan, in particular, the body. To this day, the car is popular even in Russia. Basically, lovers of tuning and Japanese culture buy a sedan, and they do not skimp on cash investments in their projects. The length of the car is almost 5 meters. In width and height - 1.7 and 1.4 meters, respectively. From this we can conclude that the car is quite low and pressed to the ground, which means it looks stylish and quite sporty. The weight of the machine is 1.3 tons. Ground clearance - 15 centimeters. "Verossa" is a low car, so in the Russian winter it is quite difficult to move around the cities, not to mention villages or small towns. But car owners do not complain, because what sacrifices will you make for the sake of the style and spirit of Japanese history.
Toyota Verossa appearance: photo and description
At first glance, one can notice a strong difference in the external design of the car from the "Mark" or "Chaser". If the mentioned models were similar to each other and looked prettyrestrained, then "Verossa" is very much distinguished by its design from the general flow. When the sedan first appeared in public in 2001, it caused an uproar and misunderstanding among fans of the brand and fans of cars in general. No one expected such an unusual decision from Toyota. Consider the car in front. The first thing that catches your eye is an unusual radiator grille, which is made in the shape of the letter U. It forms a single whole with the hood of the car and is very similar in design to the design of the American company Buick, which caused even more indignation at the time. On the sides of the grille there is one hole for ventilation and air access. The front optics are made in the form of a kind of "drops" and are very similar to the headlights of the latest Mark II versions. The bumper looks to match the general direction of design thought. A huge air intake with two blades dissecting it is located throughout the bumper. On the sides of the air intake are two round fog lights, which is in perfect harmony with the main optics of the Toyota Verossa.
Let's move on to the side of the sedan body. On the front and rear side fenders are special stylistic waves that set the tone for the entire exterior. From the headlights to the front doors and from the rear optics to the rear doors, these smooth lines stretch. Due to the impressive length of the sedan, it looks like a shark that cuts through the roadway. The angle of the pillars and a smooth transition into the trunk lid perfectly complements the overall impression ofcar. Due to the small radius of the rear wheels, the car looks somewhat modest and simple.
The rear of the car is in harmony with the front of the body. The rear optics are made in the style of the headlights. The bumper looks modest - without various cuts and other things. On the sides are two small reflectors. There is a place for a license plate on the trunk lid, and above it there is a chrome insert, typical for almost all Toyota cars of that time (and even for some cars from the modern model range). In some trim levels of the car, buyers were offered a spoiler and with it an additional brake light. Toyota Verossa, quite possibly, did not become popular because of the peculiar appearance. Let's go to the car interior.
Verossa Salon
Let's take a look inside the sedan and see how it fits in with its outstanding appearance. One thing can be said right away - in terms of equipment and interior decoration, Verossa is a real business class. Even today, the interior equipment and quality of materials is impressive.
The design of the front panel is strict and discreet. In the middle of the center console is a large display that performs navigation functions and displays all the necessary technical readings. The Toyota Mark 2 Verossa speedometer is located in the central part of the dashboard and is easy to read, which is also an important indicator. Instrument illumination is bright redmany may not like it, but all the indicators are easy to read in any light. It is worth noting that all versions of this model are right-hand drive, so it is absolutely useless to look for a left-hand drive Verossa - the sedan was produced only for the domestic market of Japan.
Convenience and quality
The front panel is made of very high quality plastic. All parts are matched to each other, which indicates a high build quality. Under the display are the controls and the frame for the radio. The Toyota Verossa isn't limited to a good front end build. It is worth talking separately about the seats. Thanks to the spacious interior, both the rear and front passenger with the driver feel very at ease. The front seats have excellent lateral support and plenty of comfortable customization.
For rear passengers there are side curtains and a curtain on the rear window. a huge number of small glove compartments, cup holders and pockets makes the interior practical and convenient even for family trips. From the rear passenger seats you can access the luggage compartment. To do this, just move the curtain behind the armrest. Speaking of the trunk: its volume allows you to safely transport one large suitcase with things and a lot of related little things for a long trip.
Toyota Verossa Specifications
In the entire history of production, the sedan had at its disposal only three modifications. The first one is 2.0 i 24V. In this version, the car has a 4-speed automatic transmission and 160 horsepower.power under the hood. The second modification is 2.5 liters and 250 horses with a turbine and 5-speed manual. The third option is a simplified second engine, which was deprived of a turbine and cut power to 200 horsepower. The choice of buyers was offered only rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive was available as an option.
Verossa prices
At present, it is safe to say that in Russia this car would be very popular. The problem is that Verossa was produced only for the domestic market, and then for only three years. And the third factor - even at home, she did not become popular. All this affected the rather meager selection of these sedans in the secondary automotive market. On average, prices in the country start from 350-400 thousand rubles. But finding the right option is quite a challenge.
Overall impression
If you still managed to become the happy owner of this car, you can safely get into any club of like-minded people. The same owners of rare sedans will always share secrets with you, tell you which battery is best to buy for Toyota Verossa, and so on. You don't have to worry about spare parts - the base of the "Verossa" is identical to the Mark II, so parts are purchased in the same way as for any other classic Japanese sedan.
