The premiere of the three-door version of the front-wheel drive five-seater C-class hatchback - the Opel Astra GTC model - took place at the end of 2011. Despite the outward resemblance to its older five-door "brother", the three-door inherited only three elements from him - these are door handles, side mirrors and an antenna on the roof. In all other respects, this model is absolutely original.
Opel designers have developed a completely new, stylish look for the car, but left it with some features typical of the Astra lineup. Visually, the three-door version seems not just compact, but miniature compared to the five-door Opel Astra GTC, but the impression is deceptive, as its dimensions have even increased slightly.
The exterior design of the car clearly speaks of its sporty inclination: the peculiar curve of the roof, the wedge-shaped side windows and the stamped "blades" of the sidewalls perfectly emphasize the dynamic character of this model. A low landing, obtained by reducing the roadskylight, put the finishing touch to the energetic and sporty look of the Astra GTC.
The external compactness of the three-door hatchback did not affect the size of its interior in any way - and the driver and passengers will not have to complain about the lack of space. The basic equipment of this model provides for the presence of sports seats, but you can optionally install more expensive, anatomical seats.
In the interior of the Opel Astra GTC one can feel the thoughtfulness of every detail and concern for the maximum convenience of the driver and passengers. Smooth lines of interior surfaces, high-quality upholstery materials and ergonomically placed controls guarantee comfort even on long journeys.
This model received a standard trunk volume of 370 liters, but it is possible to increase its size: as an option, the installation of a multi-level floor is provided - this solution allows you to significantly expand the space of the luggage compartment.
The front and rear suspensions of the three-door Opel Astra deserve special attention, the characteristics of which made it possible to improve the car's handling during acceleration and cornering. Thanks to a wider platform, the stability of the car has increased when performing various maneuvers, and the increased length has reduced the sensitivity of the car to bumps on the roads. Adapt to road conditions and driver style helps proprietary adaptive chassis FlexRide, which provided the Opel Astra GTC with improved dynamic qualities and additionalcomfort.
This model can be equipped with three types of gasoline engines (140 - 180 hp) and a 165 hp diesel engine. All modifications of the three-door version received a fuel economy system called Start / Stop. The principle of its operation is as follows: when stopped in traffic jams or at a traffic light, as soon as the driver turns on neutral gear, the engine stops working, and to start it, you must press the clutch pedal. Car owners who do not need this function can disable it using a special button on the instrument panel.
