Automotive experts and connoisseurs report that this year may be decisive for the Mercedes Gelendvagen colleague, a glorious off-road model that has also been produced for more than a decade. We are talking about the "Niva" VAZ-2121, she is "Lada" (4x4). Although AvtoVAZ employees themselves did not advertise the full information, they are testing a completely new off-road vehicle "Lada" (4x4), which is primarily intended for the Russian market.

The management of AvtoVAZ made a decision and finally confirmed that the production of Lada cars (4x4) is planned for 2018. At the heart of the car will not be the old Russian “base”, but the basis that was used on the Renault Duster. The latter, we recall, enjoys huge and well-deserved popularity in the Russian market. Although initially they also developed their own platform for Niva. However, in the end it was decidedabandon it in favor of worldwide unification.

A bit of history

The first version was produced from 1977 to 1994. The second (although it is difficult to call it a completely new model) has found a different rear end with a more comfortable tailgate and new lights. The base engine has been increased to 1.7 liters.

Next comes the new "Niva" - the third one (aka "ChevroNiva" or 2123), which was made with an eye on Europe and the USA and was made together with General Motors. The model mainly comes with the good old 1.7 liter, but for export it had a wide range of internal combustion engines, which included gasoline engines: VAZ 1, 8, and Opel 1.8-liter 16-valve engine, as well as European diesel engines. Externally and in the cabin, this is a completely different car - a different design and a more streamlined five-door body.

"VAZ" promise to produce a car that will be the direct successor to the "Niva". But at the same time, it will retain all the advantages of the legendary "rogue". Also, the new Niva (2018 model) will also replace the Chevrolet Niva. After all, its design is noticeably outdated.

Appearance

In the new model, the developers have made an emphasis on design. It is the exterior that will be the main "highlight" of the new Niva. And there are a lot of changes here. It seems that the machine is built on a completely different platform, from scratch (more on that later).

Front wide grille and intricately shaped optics. The legendary turn signals above the headlights remained. However, they received anotherform. There is a plastic shield at the bottom to prevent bumper deformations. Definitely, there will be no stamped discs in the package - only cast ones. Mirrors will also be different. About chassis and platform

The new "Niva" (4x4) of 2018 will be a crossover, which is created using a foreign platform. Unlike its predecessors, it will be a "trolley" not with a longitudinal arrangement of the power unit, but transverse. Niva will be built on a platform called Global Access. This is the chassis that is used on such all-terrain and versatile models as Renault Logan, Duster-2 and Kaptur, Dacia Loggia and Docker, and even Lada X-Ray.

According to the media, AvtoVAZ has revised this chassis for the increased capabilities of the off-road model. For example, the upgraded front subframe and reinforced engine shield portend the novelty with excellent cross-country ability. The suspension in this crossover is independent, of the MacPherson type. Its moves have been reduced, but side rolls are now minimal.

The off-road vehicle, as before, will have a galvanized load-bearing body. But the engine in the Russian crossover will have a rather transverse arrangement. More on that later.

New versions

Experts and even "VAZ" claimed that the new SUV from the old "Niva" can only get "spirit", howevertechnically, the new Niva (2018 model) will be a completely different car. But it turned out a little differently. Unlike other cars (for example, the Ford Explorer and Audi Allroad of recent years have become more passenger cars, but noticeably worse off-road), AvtoVAZ will make a marketing "knight's move." That is, in order to keep the old customers and find new ones, the new Lada Niva will be produced in two versions.

In the first case, it will be in the so-called urban version. Here the cross-country ability and more asph alt behavior are not so developed. The all-wheel drive transmission is simpler - with a conventional multi-plate clutch, which, when slipping, connects the rear wheels. After all, all "Niva" had a permanent all-wheel drive, and their chassis was built on reinforced from the "classic". Therefore, by default, the car could be rear-wheel drive.

The second package is off-road. Here, the new Lada Niva comes with uncompromising permanent all-wheel drive. It works in tandem with a "lower" and a six-speed manual transmission of the TL8 series. The geometric cross-country ability of the car has also been improved here.

New "Niva": equipment and line of power units

It is already known that the use of Russian engines and transmissions was generally excluded during the construction of the new crossover, but not immediately. The old, but modified 1.7-liter engine will be preserved. It is also planned to install an American-European 1.8-liter engine with 136 horsepower here.

In the future, the engine lineup will be complemented by proven powertrains, this time from the Japanese brand. BasicThe "urban" version will come off the assembly line with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine that will work with a CVT. Diesel versions will also appear over time. A manual is also included.

In the interior of the new "Niva" model of 2018, as before, there are the same four places. The first row of seats will receive optional heating. Thoroughly modified "instrument panel". Also, the car will receive a new center console. Now you can protect yourself from noise coming from the street, which is guaranteed by improved sound insulation. Although, in terms of its decoration and decoration, the interior of the Niva is far from the Land Rover and is approximately at the level of the same Duster.

Mirrors are now powered. Air conditioning appeared, thanks to which you can get the optimal microclimate in the car. Multimedia, according to insiders, in the "base" will be simple, but it contains the entire set of necessary features and functions.

New "Niva": dynamics characteristics, consumption

They are not going to give up the old 1.7-liter engine yet. It is slightly modified and develops 83 horsepower. Acceleration time from zero to hundreds - 17 seconds. Fuel consumption per hundred now averages 9.7 liters. The maximum speed is 150 kilometers per hour. A 1.8-liter engine accelerates the car to the first hundred in 10.5 seconds. The maximum speed is 170 kilometers per hour.

Dimensions, ground clearance

The manufacturer has not hidden the dimensions of the novelty for a long time: the length of its body is 4.14 meters, the width is1, 76 (including rear-view mirrors - 2, 11), height - 1, 65 meters. The ground clearance of the new Niva is different. Depending on the versions, it is 20 or 22 centimeters.

Trunk

The new "Niva" (4x4) of 2018 can please with a good capacity of a 480-liter trunk. And if you fold the rear seats, its volume can increase to 750 liters. Comfortable high roof rails will help to fix overall items on the roof.

Although VAZ has not yet specified the date of the announcement of the new SUV, automotive analysts and experts suggest that the new Lada Niva may be put on the conveyor as early as mid-2018.
