The automotive industry is today considered one of the most popular manufacturing industries, but at its inception, no one seriously believed that this transport would become in demand. The history of Renault is one of the proofs of how ordinary people, in love with their work, are able to turn the whole world upside down and make it better than usual.
What is the company famous for?
Cars of this manufacturer are among the most recognizable in the world. Drivers prefer them to others because of the high build quality, the availability of the latest technology, as well as the relatively inexpensive cost in the market. Despite the fact that the French government has been the largest shareholder of the company for many decades, it continues to function successfully and release new models to the market quite often.
Reno will go down in history as the first company in the world to focus on the production of compact cars of excellent quality. Indeed, the machines of this manufacturer outwardly seem quite small, howeverenough space inside for a standard family of 4. The company cooperates with a large number of automotive industries in various countries, due to this, it is possible to achieve timely sales of products on a large scale.
In 2013, Renault introduced its fans to models that use alternative fuels - electric cars. According to company representatives, the near future of the entire automotive industry belongs to them, which will be forced to abandon the use of expensive and extremely environmentally harmful petroleum products.
How did the automotive giant begin?
The history of Renault dates back to 1898, when three brothers - Fernand, Marcel and Louis Renault decide to register their own car manufacturing company. Its original name is Societe Renault Freres. At the same time, the first model Voiturette 1CV was released, which differed from all other competitors in a conveniently organized gearbox. The three brothers' firm quickly begins to grow and soon becomes one of the most popular in France.
In 1903, Marcel Renault died in a car accident, and in 1908 his brother Fernand died of a serious illness, after which the management of the company finally passed into the hands of his younger brother Louis, who soon invented the starter and spark plugs - the very parts of the car without which we cannot imagine it today. The company continued to develop and enter new markets, in particular, in 1917 it introduced the firstown tank, and fifteen years later - a diesel railcar.
In 1940, France was occupied by the Nazis, and Louis Renault was forced to agree to work for Hitler in order to keep his factories intact. After liberation from the invaders, the country's government ordered the arrest of the industrialist, his actions were considered a betrayal. During the investigation, Louis was sent to prison, where he was tortured and humiliated, from which he died in October 1944. His actions were not investigated in court, and the company was nationalized in favor of the state.
Reno: the history of the company up to the present day
After taking over the company, the French government spent several months trying to decide which way to develop it. As a result, it was decided to stick to the previously created concept and produce high-quality cars that meet the requirements of the time at affordable prices. In 1948, the Renault 4CV went on sale, nicknamed the first people's car, so much the French fell in love with it.
In the early 1950s, the company introduced a new Dauphine model, which was sold out in a matter of months in all European countries. The 1960-70s in the history of the Renault brand can be considered one of the most significant - it was then that a huge number of factories were opened in Eurasia, Latin America and Canada. Cars under this name were sold out very quickly, and the manufacturer was rightfully considered the largest exporter of vehicles in Europe.
In the 1990sthe company decided to restructure. It turned into a joint-stock company, after which it was privatized. New production standards have emerged, contracts have been signed with the most important partners from the USA, Eastern Europe and Asia, new production capacities have been formed. All this has helped Renault to become one of the top car manufacturers in the world by 2019.
How did the company come to our country?
The history of the Renault brand in Russia dates back to pre-revolutionary times. The first cars of the French manufacturer were delivered specifically for the imperial family, who used them to move around the capital. In 1916, the Russian Renault enterprise was formed and two factories for the production of vehicles were built in Russia. A year later, all the capacities of the organization were nationalized in favor of the state.
In the 1960s and 70s, the company actively cooperated with the USSR and even helped to carry out a significant modernization of the Moskvich car. By the end of the 1980s, about 25% of cars in the Soviet Union were created on the basis of French technology. Immediately after perestroika, an official representative office of the company appeared in Russia, and in 1999 the first car production was launched.
2005 was a turning point in the history of Renault cars in Russia. A full-fledged plant for the construction of vehicles was opened here. A year later, Renault Logan has become the most popular model sold in car dealerships. In 2014 JSC "Avtoframos" wastransformed into Renault Russia, thus emphasizing the relationship with the French company. About 100 thousand Renault cars are produced annually in our country. Most of them are immediately sold out in stores, so the company has considerable prospects here.
The most popular model in Russia
Of course, we are talking about Renault Logan. It was this car that was widely advertised in our country in the mid-2000s. The history of Renault Logan dates back to 1998, when the manufacturing company bought the production facilities of the Romanian concern Dacia and signed a contract with Nissan. By joint efforts, it was decided to create a comfortable family car, the average price of which will be 5-6 thousand euros. With the help of computer simulation, it was possible to save a huge amount on design research, which also affected the low cost of the vehicle.
The first model was presented to the public in 2004. At the same time, mass production was launched at the facilities of Dacia, while assembly in Russia began only a year later. Car enthusiasts call this car a constructor, because its suspension, clutch, gearbox and steering were borrowed from previously created models. In addition, simple and inexpensive parts were used to save money. Also, in the basic configurations, there are no power steering, airbags for passengers, etc.
The history of Renault Logan also includes such moments when products were planned exclusively for sales andactive use in third world countries where residents do not have the opportunity to purchase more expensive cars. High ground clearance was created especially for low quality roads, the engines were adapted to run on low quality gasoline. In 2012, the second generation model was introduced, in Russia it began to be sold two years later, the assembly of cars is carried out through the AvtoVAZ concern.
Family Model
In 1995, the Renault Megan model was first presented to the public, the history of which began 5 years earlier. The designers wanted to offer car owners an adequate replacement for the morally and physically obsolete Renault 19, but this could not be done for an objective reason - the desire to adhere to the chosen strategy. As a result, Megane can be considered as a modified and improved version of the 19th model in terms of details. However, motorists have accepted and loved it, as evidenced by high sales.
In general, if we talk about Renault, the history of models created under this brand is nothing more than the processing of previously created cars. Manufacturer experts constantly monitor vehicle sales on the market, receive feedback from drivers and, based on it, make the necessary additions when developing the next option.
As of 2019, there are already four versions of Megan, the last of which was released three years earlier. According to experienced motorists, the new concept has become lower and larger witharea point of view. Also, a completely new optics was added to the car and the appearance of the radiator compartment was updated. Now on the market you can find this car with three body modifications: station wagon, hatchback and sedan.
SUV for Russian roads
One of the most popular cars in our country is Renault Duster. The history of the model dates back to the mid-2000s. Then it existed under the name Dacia Duster and was produced for European drivers. In the early 2010s, the car was presented to the general public as a model of a French manufacturer, while Renault managers positioned it as an SUV that can pass even in the most inaccessible places.
In Russia, the production of this model is organized at JSC Avtoframos, located in the Moscow region. Since 2012, active car sales began in the country. At the same time, Russian cars have a number of design differences - an enlarged washer reservoir, powerful generators and batteries, automatic transmissions, etc. In 2013, Renault Duster received the title of "Car of the Year in Russia", after which its popularity has increased many times over.
The story of the Renault Duster does not end there, its version, called the Nissan Terrano, was developed especially for third world countries. It is also sold in Russia and has some differences - a stronger suspension, a modified grille and a different shape of headlights, doors, bumpers and fenders. Of particular concern to motorists is the fact thatthis model does not have an all-wheel drive version with automatic transmission.
Compact hatchback for long trips
Motorists of the 1990s dreamed of a small but roomy car that could take them on a trip. The French manufacturer heard the prayers of motorists. This is how the Renault Sandero was born - a shortened version of the Logan, which is a full-fledged five-seater hatchback. Development of the vehicle began in 2005 and took about two years before it went on sale.
The history of the creation of Renault Sandero echoes the Romanian brand Dacia, since it was under it that the car was first released in Europe. The car acquired its current name in 2009, when its serial production began at the Russian Renault Russia plant. The car went on sale in March 2010 and immediately attracted its unpretentiousness in relation to maintenance and stable behavior on Russian roads.
It would seem, what does Lada Largus have to do with it?
The history of Renault includes a huge number of joint conglomerations with enterprises from various countries. This did not bypass Russia either, here the French manufacturer decided to cooperate with the AvtoVAZ concern. The joint project was named Lada Largus. In fact, this car is an adaptation for the Russian market of the pre-existing Dacia Logan model. The development turned out to be quite successful, since 2012 more than 400 thousand copies have been produced.
According to the initial agreements, gradually most of the capacities for the production of cars of this class should be transferred to the territory of Russia. As of the beginning of 2019, this task was completed by 62%, in the future it is planned to increase the number of production lines in Russia by another 10%. In 2018, the installation of methane at Largus began for the first time, in the future the company plans to continue assembling cars that run on both gasoline and gas.
What is the secret of the company's success?
For more than 100 years, people around the world have been buying and using Renault cars for their intended purpose. The history of models is created and supplemented daily, which allows you to track the path of the company's development from its very beginning. The main and rather attractive feature for the consumer has been and remains the low cost of production of vehicles, which allows them to be sold at relatively low prices. It is a mistake to believe that the French manufacturer creates only cheap cars for those who cannot afford expensive cars, the assortment of the enterprise is quite wide and you can find high-budget models in it - Twingo, Clio R. S., Talisman, etc. e.
In the near future, the company plans to focus on the production of electric vehicles and gradually accustom its consumers to use environmentally friendly vehicles. In Europe, such models are already quite common, they can be purchased for 8-9 thousand euros. Renault does not supply electric vehicles to Russia yet, butthe likelihood that the situation will change soon is quite high.
Representatives of the Russian division of "Renault" argue that the existing capacity is currently enough to meet the demand of domestic motorists. In the future, the number of the company's factories in Russia should increase, which will lead to the creation of additional jobs and the appearance on the market of completely new high-quality models at affordable prices.
