Chinese brand Great Wall is one of the long-livers of the Russian market. In 2011, the company released a new model - Hover H5. This car is a luxury version of the rather widely known Great Wall Hover in Russia, reviews of which are always positive. The unit has got a new exterior design, improved interior and two more powerful engines. In the guise of an SUV, the brutality has diminished, and the front of the H5 is now a bit like Mazda cars. A new bumper appeared at the back, another tailgate, as well as new lighting equipment. The new body kit increased the overall length of the car by almost 3 centimeters, and the width by a centimeter.
The Hover H5 can be equipped with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with a power output of 136 hp. or a 2-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 150 "horses". Both engines come standard with a 5-speed manual, while the diesel version can be ordered with a 5-speed automatic.
Prices for a Chinese SUV range from 700 to 825 thousand rubles. The most expensive isthe top-end equipment of the Great Wall Hover H5 diesel, the reviews of which, by the way, are more positive than the petrol counterpart. Despite the fact that the Chinese are constantly improving their products while maintaining reasonable prices, quality problems still remain. The fit of body parts is far from ideal: the gaps are too big, uneven in places. The tailgate has to be slammed with great effort. There are other, minor, but unpleasant flaws.
The salon has become more presentable and a little more comfortable, the upholstery of the seats and the ceiling has changed. On the steering wheel appeared control buttons for the phone and radio. The instrument cluster has also become more informative. The usual music was replaced by a convenient Russified multimedia system with a touch screen, and the speakers of the audio system no longer wheeze when the volume is turned up.
However, not everything is so smooth. Parts made of hard plastic do not always fit well to each other, the seals bulge, the handle of the lumbar support roller dangles, the Hover does not have an on-board computer, and the air conditioner turned out to be ineffective in the heat. Everything is in order with visibility: thin A-pillars, impressive exterior mirrors and a rear-view camera with parking sensors make it easy to maneuver on an SUV. Things are not bad with capacity, because the Great Wall Hover H5 with confident comfort accommodates 5 people and all their luggage. And if you unfold the rear seats, then the Chinese SUV becomes almost a home on wheels.
In motion, the Hover is leisurely, andacceleration to a groan takes about 13 seconds. The chassis of the car also says that this car is not designed for fast driving. The SUV sways strongly on uneven pavement, the body shakes on all bumps, the steering is devoid of information, and the car reacts to control commands with a delay.
But as soon as you move off the asph alt, the picture changes dramatically. Hover has a lot of off-road adaptations: a powerful frame, a continuous rear axle, large wheel suspension moves and others. The impenetrable suspension of an SUV is completely indifferent to the quality of the roads and the number of bumps: to move a ravine, a pit or climb a high curb - this is a trifle for Hover. The SUV is ready to take "mud baths", the main thing is not to climb into an open swamp. It is for these qualities that Great Wall Hover reviews are favorable, because, as we all know, Russia cannot boast of its roads.
What's the verdict? This car is woven from contradictions: it has good equipment, but unstable quality, good capacity, but a low level of comfort, good cross-country ability, but a rather weak engine. The car has been produced for more than a year, the Great Wall Hover reviews remain good due to the low price and the complete absence of competitors that can compete with the Hover in terms of their consumer properties.
