Oil dampers

Signs of malfunction

Symptoms of failed rear shock absorbers cannot be confused with other suspension damage. First of all, this is the rocking of the car while driving. With serviceable shock absorbers, the machine should smoothly return to its original position. Swinging indicates their failure. Another sign of a problem is the presence of oil leaks on the case. This is a reliable indication of damage to the gland. Most often, it simply loses its tightness. In this case, the shock absorber can be repaired, but if there is no proper experience, it is better to change to a new one.

Substitution sequence

First of all, you have to take care of the necessary tools. You will need:

• two ring spanners for 19;
• medium hammer;
• WD-40 or equivalent fluid;
• new dampers.

Replacing the rear shock absorbers VAZ-2107 is carried out in the following sequence:

1. A viewing hole or overpass will be required to complete the work.
2. Shift into first gear and apply the parking brake.
3. Unscrew the nut of the lower mounting of the rear shock absorber VAZ-2107. Sometimes, due to severe corrosion, this can be very difficult to do. In this case, the joint must be pretreated with WD-40.
4. Now you need to pull the bolt out of the mount. With prolonged use, it “sours” a lot, so you will have to use a hammer.
5. Remove spacer andspacer sleeve.
6. Remove the bottom mount from the bracket.



7. Unscrew the top nut with a 19 key. It will also need to be treated with WD-40.
8. Unscrew the nut and remove the shock absorber from the top stud.



9. Install in reverse order. In this case, you need to insert bushings into the eyes of the rear shock absorbers VAZ-2107. There are 4 of them in total - two on the top and two on the bottom. As a rule, they come with shock absorbers.

Very often only one rear shock absorber fails. It would seem that it is enough to change only it, but it is not. It is desirable to do this only in pairs. Shock absorbers must have approximately the same properties, which is impossible if one of them has worked on a car for several years, and the second has recently been replaced. This will inevitably lead to poor vehicle stability.
