But that doesn't mean they haven't become famous. If such an opinion exists, then it is worth refuting it, since the German concern has many well-known open-top cars.

Audi cabriolets began to be produced at the end of the last century. And the most famous open-top car of that time is the Audi 80. True, such a car is rare in Russia. We can often find sedans and station wagons of the 80th model. But the Audi 80 is a convertible, which is a rarity in our country.

This machine has a clean and discreet design that is easy to recognize. Its characteristic feature is the aluminum frame of the windshield. And, of course, strict body lines.

There were two such versions - with the MT and AT motors. The first of these was more economical, as it consumed 10.8 liters of fuel in mixed mode and accelerated to 100 km / h in 9.8 seconds. Its maximum speed was 218 km/h. The version with the AT engine consumed 12 liters of fuel and accelerated to “hundreds” in 11.1 seconds. Her top speed was 215 km/h.

There were also two versions with 150-horsepower 2.6-liter engines. They were in second place in terms of power. And more options were offered with engines of 115, 90 and 125 horsepower. The most economical was the second of those listed. And it is understandable why, because the 1.9-liter 90-horsepower TDI MT consumed only 5.6 liters of fuel in mixed mode.

In general, there was a choice, and there was a buyer for each convertible.

2002-2005 issue

It was during this time period that such a car as the Audi A4 was produced. The convertible quickly became popular. Especially the 8H model. He had a 3-liter 5V V6 engine under the hood. And it was driven by a 6-speed “mechanics”. It was a powerful motor, producing 220 horsepower. And the maximum speed that the car reached was 243 km / h. By the way, it accelerated to “hundreds” in just 7.8 seconds. For 100 kilometers, 13.9 liters of fuel were consumed in the city, 7.4 - on the highway.

This car had everything to become popular. ABS, EBD, BAS, ESC, ASR - developers have built all these systems into the car. Front and side airbags, curtains - they were also installed.

New in 2010s

Exactly five years ago, a new car from the German concern was presented to the attention of motorists. It became known as the "Audi A5". The convertible turned out to be luxurious - it's hard to argue with that. In addition, the novelty received high-tech powertrains.

Design is great. You can verify this by looking at the photo above. The car is equipped with a fabric top, like all open cars. The roof opens in 15 seconds and folds down in 17. Automatic drive is standard. But as an option, you can order the so-called soundproof top.

All A5 models feature powerful performance. Audi convertibles of this edition boast strong engines. The “weakest” (if I may say so) are 1.8 TFSI MT and 1.8 TFSI CVT. Both engines produce 177 horsepower. Only the first accelerates to 222 km / h, and the second - up to 213 km / h. Another acceleration to 100 kilometers of a car equipped with a 1.8 TFSI MT engine takes 0.2 seconds less time. The cost differs by 70,000 rubles.

In the middle of the power rating are the 2.0 TFSI MT, 2.0 TFSI CVT and 2.0 TFSI quattro AMT. They have the same engine size and power - 2 liters and 230 horsepower. Only consumption, maximum speed and acceleration differ. But not much. Their speed maximum is 245, 235 and 240 km/h. respectively. Acceleration also differs by 0.2 seconds.

And finally, the most powerful versions. These are 3.0 TDI quattro AMT and 3.0 TFSI quattro AMT, 245 and 272 horsepower respectively. They accelerate to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. Only the consumption of the TDI is 5.9 liters per 100 km, while the TFSI is 8.5 liters.

The release of this car was long-awaited for many lovers of open cars. as a basefor the novelty, the Audi A3 sedan was taken, and not the hatchback, which was practiced before. By the way, justified decision. After all, it was thanks to this that it turned out to increase the rear light and the volume of the trunk.

There are 9 different configurations at prices ranging from 1,630,000 to 1,949,000 rubles. Three options are offered with a 1.4-liter 125-horsepower engine, each of which is equipped with a 7-speed “robot”. Needless to say, it is in every version of this model. True, a 6-speed "mechanics" can also be offered to a potential buyer. 6 out of 9 models are front wheel drive. And three more boast all-wheel drive. By the way, the remaining 6 engines of the Audi A3 have the same volume (1.8 liters) and power (180 hp). Other differences are in the equipment.

This car also exists in several versions. Models of 2012 cost from 6,295,000 to 7,380,000 rubles. Prices are high, but these cars are worth it.

Take, for example, the most expensive modification, V10 5.2 FSI 5.2 AMT. Under the hood of this car is a 525-horsepower gasoline engine. "Audi R8" is a convertible that accelerates to hundreds in less than 4 seconds. Its powerful motor is driven by a 7-speed roboticCheckpoint. The rear is independent spring suspension, as is the front. The maximum speed that this car can reach is 311 kilometers per hour. Despite the fact that this model is the most powerful, the others cannot be called weak. Their speed limit is at least 300 km/h. The most economical option is V8 4.2 FSI 4.2 AMT. This model consumes about 19.5 liters in the city.

People who own this car claim that even the most expensive and powerful sedan will seem uncomfortable after such a convertible. And yet, if you want adrenaline, you will have to try hard to find an opponent - few people can surpass this car in terms of dynamics.
