When it comes to small Mercedes, miniature Smart cars come to mind. Their production was launched 20 years ago, and so far the world knows 10 models. It is worth talking about them now.

City Coupe

So it was decided to call the first small "Mercedes" released by Smart. Looking at the photo in the article, you can evaluate his appearance. The length of the car is only 2.5 meters! The developers equipped this city car with a 3-cylinder gasoline engine, the working volume of which was 599 cm³. There were two versions of this power unit. Further production

In 1999, a year after the start of production, the Passion modification was released. It differed from the two earlier versions by the presence of air conditioning, fog lights and a silver tridion safety capsule. At the same time, the City Coupe appeared with a diesel engine that produced 41 hp. With. with a volume of 0.8 liters. By the way, all versions were equipped with a robotic 6-speed transmission, which had both fully automatic and manual modes.

Despite its diminutiveness, this car turned out to be functional. It is equipped with front and side airbags, a folding steering column, an EBD system, belts with pretensioners, power windows, central locking, a car radio and a puncture repair kit. Since 1999, the basic equipment has been supplemented with a glass roof, audio preparation, a 12 V socket, an additional key with a central locking remote control and a lock on the gas tank.

Crossblade

This little Mercedes-Smart was released in 2002. It has become slightly larger than its predecessor - its length was 2619 mm.

Smart Crossblade attracts attention at least because it is made in the back of a convertible. It has no doors, windshield and roof. All of the above have been replaced by smallhandrails that protect the driver and his passengers from falling out of the vehicle. And the results of crash tests confirmed the undoubted safety of this miniature convertible. The driver and passenger, due to the high location, are practically outside the danger zone of a collision. The experts also noted that the suspension of the car effectively absorbs impact energy, after which it distributes the force along the bottom in different directions.

By the way, this car is equipped with a 3-cylinder 70-horsepower engine that allows you to accelerate to a maximum of 135 km/h.

City Cabrio

This little Mercedes is an open-topped version of the model described at the very beginning. City Coupe was popular, so the manufacturers decided to make a novelty out of it - a convertible. But the visual ones are the only differences, since technically the new product completely repeats its predecessor.

Dimensions remain the same. The body is a load-bearing steel frame of a one-volume layout with a soft folding top manufactured by Webasto. The roof of this model is semi-automatic. It consists of three elements. This is a sliding roof, convertible top and side rails.

You can remove it by pressing a special button that the developers placed between the front seats. It is also on the key fob. You need to hold down this button for two seconds, after which the top will fold into the trunk. After that, it remains only to remove the side guides and put them in a compartment specially designed for this.

Roadster

Listing the small models of "Mercedes", it is worth noting this car. The Smart Roadster is a 2-door rear-wheel drive sports car that is not so tiny compared to the previously mentioned versions, at a whopping 3247mm in length.

Roadster was produced with two engines. One of them produced 61 liters. s., and the other - 82 liters. With. Regardless of the installed unit, the car was equipped with a 6-speed gearbox (both “automatic” and “mechanics”), and could accelerate to a maximum of 160 km / h.

But the dynamics and consumption were different. Models with a 61-horsepower unit accelerated to “hundreds” in 15.5 seconds. Consumption was 6.2 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in the city. On the highway - about 4.9 liters. Versions with an 82-horsepower unit, in turn, reached the mark of 100 km / h in just 10.5 seconds. Their consumption is higher by 0.1-0.2 liters.

Roadster turned out to be so popular that even the specialists of the Brabus tuning studio decided to release their biturbo version based on it. The idea was implemented, and the light saw 10 improved "Roadsters". Brabus specialists equipped the model with two engines, the total power of which was 218 "horses". As a result, the maximum speed limit reached 250 km / h. And to “hundreds” this car was able to accelerate in less than 5 seconds.

Forfour

This small car, the photo of which is posted in the article, is a Mercedes-Smart hatchback with a fairly spacious interior that can accommodate five people. And thisimpressive, because the length of this model is only 3752 mm.

The hatchback was produced in several versions. They differed in engines. The weakest model was the version with the 1.1 liter 74 hp engine. He spent 5.5 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle, and accelerated to “hundreds” in 13.4 seconds. The most powerful production model was the Smart Forfour 1.5 AT hatchback. Its speed limit was limited to 190 km / h. The consumption was 6.1 liters, and the dynamics - 5.8 seconds to "hundreds".

Smart Forfour, like the model mentioned above, attracted the attention of Brabus tuning specialists. The hatchback, as a result of the work carried out, received a 177-horsepower turbocharged engine. Thanks to this unit, the improved Forfour was able to accelerate to a maximum of 221 km / h. And such a model exchanges the first “hundred” after 6.9 seconds after the start of movement.

Fortwo

This little Mercedes, whose photo can also be seen in the article, was released in 2008. The subcompact car is only 2695mm long.

It, like other models, has its own peculiarity. And this is a 3-cylinder engine with a micro-hybrid drive. It has a very interesting working principle. When driving in a straight line at speeds up to 8 km / h, the engine does not work. The drive turns it off on its own. Thus, the engine is disconnected from the transmission, and fuel consumption stops. Then, when the driver starts to pick up speed, the engine restarts at a reducedtransmission. It has been proven that such a system saves about 30% of gasoline when driving at low speeds.

By the way, the car is equipped with a 71-horsepower engine, due to which it accelerates to 100 kilometers in 13.7 seconds. The maximum is limited to 145 km/h.

There is another version equipped with an 84-horsepower unit. The speed limit is the same, but the dynamics are more impressive - only 10.7 seconds to 100 km.

A-class

Now we should move away from the discussion of Smart models and pay attention to cars directly produced by Mercedes-Benz. In particular, the model A-150, which was first presented to the public in 2008.

This is really a small Mercedes-Benz, as you can see by looking at the photo provided in the article. The length of the car, made in the body of a 3-door hatchback, reaches only 3838 mm.

Under the hood of the hatchback is a 95-horsepower 1.5-liter engine that can be paired with both a 5-speed "mechanics" and an automatic variator. With such a motor, the car accelerates to “hundreds” in 12.6 seconds. Its speed limit is limited to 175 km/h.

What about the expense? The hatchback is economical. In urban mode, it takes only 7.9 liters of gasoline for 100 kilometers. When driving on the highway, consumption is reduced to 5.4 liters.

B-class

B-180 is, of course, not the smallest car from Mercedes, but still in comparison with othersmodels of the eminent concern, it is distinguished by compact dimensions. Its length reaches 4359 mm.

This is a hatchback that saw the light of day in November 2011. Under its hood is a 109-horsepower 1.8-liter diesel engine. It is surprisingly economical. For 100 "urban" kilometers, the engine consumes only 5.5 liters of fuel. And this consumption is reduced when driving on the highway to 4.1 l.

It is worth noting that the model is equipped with both a 6-speed "mechanics" and a 7-speed "automatic". Acceleration for both versions is the same - 10.9 seconds to 100 kilometers. The maximum speed is 190 km/h.

This sports hatchback quickly gained popularity. It has an attractive design, a high-quality interior, an economical and powerful engine, and a rich equipment package. The list of basic equipment includes ABS, traction control, emergency braking system, climate control, airbags, a six-speaker audio system, an on-board computer with a wide-screen display, and many other useful features.

Mini crossover

Mercedes-Benz GLA - that's what car I would like to talk about now. The photo of the smallest off-road Mercedes in the article shows the car in all its glory. It can be seen that it is compact, but hardly anyone will say that its length reaches only 4417 mm. This is the merit of the designers who have made every effort to make the model sporty brutal and even somewhat aggressive.

A mini crossover is offered with a choice of four engines. Two of them (156 and 211 horsepower) consume gasoline. Others (136 and 170 hp) run on diesel fuel.
