They were assembled at the Zavolzhsky plant, which produced tractors. Modern tracked all-terrain vehicles, which continue the line of the above model, have a number of new features. For example, GAZ-34029, which is produced today at the same plant, has a carrying capacity of half a ton more, a turbocharged diesel engine, more power, an autonomous body heater.

Such a machine is more reliable, but also heavier - the weight of the unit can reach 5.3 tons.

GAZ-71 was the first all-terrain vehicle produced at the Zavolzhsky plant. Since then, about 20 modifications of these machines have been created. The first of them worked in the conditions of the Far North and the taiga, whereparticipated in the development of the oil and gas industry of the USSR. Also, over the years of operation, the enterprise has produced the GAZ-73 armored personnel carrier, a vehicle with increased buoyancy (GAZ-34036), as well as the GAZ-3403 with a carrying capacity of 1.25 tons, equipped with awnings and caterpillars of various configurations.
