Fog lights on the "Gazelle" are installed not for beauty, but from the need to improve visibility on the road during fog or rain and snow. However, some models are not supplied with them by the manufacturer. How to choose, install and connect the headlights yourself will be discussed below.

About fog lights

Ordinary headlights in fog, rain, heavy snowfall are of little use: the space in front of the car is not visible from them, it is limited by a whitish veil, especially in long-range mode. This happens due to the reflection of light from drops of fog, rain, snowflakes.

In such a situation, an indispensable assistant is the fog lamp unit (PTF), the installation of which on any car will evenly illuminate the road and avoid dangerous situations.

But it's important not to forget that headlights are different, and knowing a thing or two about it won't hurt any driver.

Possess good characteristicsRussian fog lamps produced at the Bosch-Ryazan and Avtosvet enterprises. Quite a budget cost is another plus of such products.

Headlights from Asian companies Al Khateeb and Saca are more attractive in their appearance, but their cost is twice as high as Russian ones, and high power often leads to overheating and deformation of plastic parts.

The devices of the German company Hella are considered the highest quality fog optics, but this pleasure is not available to every driver due to the cost.

When buying, first of all, pay attention to the appearance of the headlight (set): “foglights” have a marker in the form of the letter “B”. Next, the tightness between the diffuser and the reflector (housing) is checked. Failure to seal this connection will shorten the life of the headlight.

Types of foglights

Fog headlights for Gazelle are divided into rectangular, square and oval according to the shape of execution, but the shape of the body does not play a special role and does not give any special advantages to one over the other.

"Foglights" may differ in optical schemes. Thanks to the use of different options, the issue of the optimal ratio of the maximum luminous flux and the minimum power consumed to ensure it is solved to varying degrees.

The most widely used headlights have a parabolic reflector. With this scheme, the installation location of the light bulb is combined with the focal point, which allows you to form a luminous flux in the form of a horizontal strip. A special screen limits its upward spread. headlight efficiencyis 27%.

Higher efficiency (up to 45%) have fog lights with a free-form reflector. The design allows the use of a significant amount of light, providing a maximum area of its distribution. However, headlights with this optical design are expensive and have not yet been widely used.

Selecting the location of the headlights

An important point in the configuration of any car is the installation of fog lights. The Gazelle is no exception in this regard, given the commercial all-weather nature of its operation.

There are two options for installing headlights on the Gazelle: on the bumper and on the roof. The first one is traditionally used.

The second option is poorly consistent with the rules of the road, since this document sets restrictions on the placement of lighting equipment not provided by the factory on a car. The installation of roof lights is only permitted when the vehicle is used in difficult conditions: gravel road surface, off-road.

The first option also has limitations: you can install fog lights on the Gazelle no higher than the level of conventional headlights, while the dimensions of the car are not violated by more than 400 mm, and the distance from the headlights to the road surface should not be less than 250 mm.

Installation guidelines

Fog lights on the "Gazelle" are installed with the obligatory consideration of the power of their flow. It is forbidden to use PTF if this indicator exceeds the power of the main light sources.

Headlights must be installed symmetrically about the axis of the car.

If the factory has already provided and marked on the bumper the installation locations of "foglights", then you should follow the factory recommendations and install the headlights in these areas.

After fixing the PTF, the correctness of their adjustment must be checked. It is advisable to have this done at a workshop by a qualified electrician. This step is perhaps the most important of the previous ones, since the quality of the fog lights depends on it. Only then will they be useful equipment.

Connecting "fog"

After the fog lights on the Gazelle are installed, you need to connect them to the on-board power supply. This work requires certain knowledge, otherwise, not only electrical, but also fire safety standards may be violated. To correctly complete this step, you will need a fog lamp connection diagram (“Gazelle” must be equipped with an on-board network diagram).

First of all, you should check the proportionality of the cross-sections of the wires of the on-board network and the wires from the headlights. A minimum cross section of up to 0.75 mm is allowed. If you use wires of a smaller cross section, they will overheat, and then ignite.

It is mandatory to disconnect the on-board battery. Such a measure is necessary in case of erroneous connection of the PTF and a short circuit in the circuit.

If the headlight kit does not provide a relay for turning them on, you should purchase and install it, since a regular button may not ensure the normal operation of the PTF due to the high current of their supply and burning of its contacts.

PTF power is supplied only through dedicated fuses, otherwise a malfunction of the headlights and their wiring will turn off the entire Gazelle on-board electrical network.

Headlights can be considered fully installed if, after completing their installation and connecting the battery, all vehicle devices, including lighting devices, work normally.

Adjustment

When the installation of the fog lights is completed, the Gazelle is driven onto a horizontal platform to adjust them. For the qualitative performance of this work, you should:

  • bring up tire pressure;
  • full fuel tank;
  • load the car to normal;
  • on a vertical screen (located 10 m from the car) a vertical (auto axis) and two parallel lines are marked (the top one is the distance from the center of the headlights to the surface of the site, the bottom one is 100 mm).

PTF for "Gazelle" series "Business" and "Next"

The problem of safe driving in difficult weather conditions gives rise to the following question: "What kind of fog lights ("Gazelle-Business" -your car) to purchase, is it possible to install PTF intended for other cars?"

The difficulty lies in mounting the headlights specifically for this car. A mistake in choosing can be costly for the owner of Gazelle-Business. According to the majority of drivers and car service specialists, the Lada-Priora foglights may be the best option, although the mount will still have to be finalized: an adapter is required.

The fog lights installed on the Gazelle-Next will not create problems for the driver, similar to those found in the Gazelle-Business.

To bet or not to bet? Drivers' opinions

Judging by the reviews, drivers unanimously welcome the installation of "foglights". The only question is which headlights to put on the Gazelle. The automotive industry has only now “grown up” to their installation, and the first models were deprived of this. Therefore, this problem is most often raised by drivers on specialized forums.

Also, drivers believe that it is better to use yellow "foglights", while you should not skimp on good PTFs.

Recommend Osram All lamps for fog, Night Breaker or Bosch lamps for snow.
