For the first time, the Mazda Bongo minivan was born back in 1966. At that time, it was a rear-wheel drive car with very modest technical characteristics for today. The machine was equipped with a small gasoline engine brand F800 with a displacement of 0.782 liters. Some time later, Japanese engineers launched a new Mazda Bongo minivan with one-liter F1000 engines into mass production. At the same time, the first all-wheel drive modification of a car with 4 doors that was already popular at that time was born.
Toward the 70s of the last century, the car factory developed completely new versions of the legendary Mazda Bongo - a light truck and a pickup truck.
Second generation production
Unfortunately, the Japanese minibus had one significant drawback - low resistance to corrosion. These machines could be operated for no more than 5 years, after which the entire body was completely covered with rust. Therefore, the Mazda Bongo needed many technical improvements to this part of the car. Thus, at the end of the 70s (to be more precise, in 1977), the company developed and launched into mass production a new, second generation of trucks. Thanks to a well-thought-out advertising campaign, the novelty was the bestseller among all cars in its class. Soon, three more units with volumes of 1.3, 1.4, and also 1.6 liters were added to the old 1-liter engine. The performance of the Mazda Bongo was excellent.
3rd generation production
The next generation of minivans was released in 1983. The legendary Mazda Bongo has significantly changed its appearance, as well as its technical characteristics. This generation of machines was the first to be equipped with a diesel engine. And there were two such motors. A diesel engine with a working volume of 2.0 and 2.2 liters was installed on the Mazda Bongo. Three months later, in the same 1983, the plant first produced a long-wheelbase modification of the car. It was the Mazda Bongo Brownie. This generation of trucks has been produced for as long as 16 years. Over this entire period, the Japanese concern managed to develop several more modifications of the Mazda Bongo, including electric cars. This generation was also the first to be equipped with automatic transmissions, which at that time were extremely rare on the roads.
4th generation development
In 1999, the production of new minibuses and light trucks called "Mazda Bongo" started. Atcreating a new generation of the legendary Bongo, engineers paid great attention to the safety of the new product - for the first time this car was equipped with several airbags, as well as an anti-lock wheel system.
The design, which to this day delights motorists, did not go unnoticed. It is also worth highlighting the appearance of a completely new modification - a refrigerated van.
Unfortunately, last year the management of the concern announced the termination of mass production of Mazda Bongo. The fourth generation was the last to be produced in Japan.
