Serial production of the GAZ-4301 truck was launched in 1992. They equipped it with a 125 hp 6-cylinder diesel engine. air-cooled from GAZ-542. The engine was produced under license from Deutz, a well-known German company. The production of the car continued until 1994. During this time, 28158 trucks of the GAZ-4301 family were put on wheels.
From the previous, 53rd model, the GAZ-4301 was distinguished by a diesel engine, and also by the fact that even at the design stage it had the ability to constantly work as part of a road train. In addition, it must be said about the 6-cylinder engine. This is a licensed copy of the engine from Deutz. GAZ has purchased a license for a whole family, which also includes 4-cylinder diesel engines with different capacities.
Strengthening and Sustainability
Due to the fact that the chassis was originally intended for universal use, many nodes belonging to third-generation trucks were radically redesigned to strengthen them. Many of them have been newly developed, namely: gearbox, rear axle with optional differential lock, front axle, suspension, driveline, frame. Also in the new GAZ-43101 model, a dual-circuit braking system appeared, which has a hydraulic drive and two pneumatic amplifiers. Good stability of the machine was ensured by creating a wide track of the front and rear wheels. The low center of gravity also played a role.
Improvement of consumer qualities
GAZ-4103 also includes many technical solutions that were originally aimed at optimizing the consumer qualities of this truck. Here there is a steering equipped with a hydraulic booster, an electric torch device that facilitates starting the engine, a driver's seat (adjustable sprung), a ventilation and heating system is much more efficient, there is a device for washing and blowing a semi-panoramic windshield. All this allowed the GAZ-4301 car, the technical characteristics of which were much improved, to become, without a doubt, a new milestone in the model range of the plant.
But there were also significant shortcomings…
First of all, the low demand for this truck was due to the low-quality assembly of engines, as well as their unreliability. This did not allow to deploy mass production of diesel engines. The low volume of production was explained by another reason - the car had a low cross-country ability. The fact is that its front axle was heavy, because the calculationwas made on a powerful engine, and the car was intended for operation as part of a road train. But on muddy roads, of which there are a lot in our country, the GAZ-4301 kept getting stuck.
In the early 90s, adverse events in the economy almost completely nullified the state order for vehicles for agriculture, including the GAZ-4301. The result of this situation was that, due to small production volumes, the cost of a diesel engine began to exceed the cost of a car as a whole by several times. In 1994, the losses of motor production amounted to 200 million rubles, and this figure doubled the following year. All this led to the fact that the management of the Gorky plant decided to stop the production of diesel engines, and to remove the GAZ-4301 family from production.
Nevertheless, this car has found application in our country. Although the GAZ-4301 often receives not very pleasant reviews, it is relatively cheap to repair, and is also an excellent vehicle for transporting a wide variety of goods.
