The SUV is designed to overcome road obstacles of varying complexity. Of course, not everyone buys them for this very purpose, some drivers are mainly attracted by the huge size of the body. Tires for such cars should be special, designed for operation in completely different conditions than tires for passenger cars. Summer tires for 4x4 SUVs: types

Such tires are divided into three types: universal gravel, all-weather mud and road. The first category is characterized by a wide tread pattern and resistance to harmful effects. These tires perform well on pavement and also show good off-road capability.

Mud tires have the widest and most aggressive tread pattern to help clean themselves. They have high couplingproperties on any road and in any weather. The third option is characterized by a clearly directed tread pattern: these tires are comfortable and quiet, and they also provide excellent grip on both dry and wet asph alt. They were modified in accordance with Russian operating conditions and gained great popularity among motorists. The protector has a very large pattern and hard engraving. However, on packed snow and ice, you need to be as careful as possible, because on such a road surface they behave the worst.

Tyres designed for SUVs require completely different qualities than tires that are installed on ordinary passenger cars. Instead of exemplary behavior on asph alt and effective resistance to hydroplaning, it is important that they have good flotation on dirt roads and the ability to self-clean. But, of course, no one has canceled the standard set of properties that all tires without exception should have.

Tires for such cars must be very powerful and durable, because the weight of the SUV is large, respectively, tire wear will be more noticeable. The protector must be high and meet stringent requirements. It is worth remembering that the stability of the SUV is low due to the high height, so the resistance to slip in such tires must be really huge.

In the production of tires, it should also be taken into account that the braking distance of such cars is quite large. These vehicles require tires with high uneven tread. These are the main characteristics that are necessary for such rubber, but it is worth remembering that each car has its own specific requirements for tires.

Marking

Tyres for 4x4 SUVs are divided into those that are installed on premium cars, and are also "real" tires that do not care about any difficulties. As for the first option, they should combine good performance with a high level of comfort, while they are not cheap. Second class tiresfocused primarily on providing a higher degree of off-road traction in all weather conditions. These tires feature a strong carcass construction and a wide and uneven tread pattern.

There are so-called off-road tire markings. There are four of them: HP, HT, AT, MT. The first High Performance family is designed for premium SUVs. They are best suited for hard road surfaces, and the tread pattern is often asymmetric. These tires will feel good at high speeds, the limit of which is limited to 210 km/h.

The next Half Terrain tire option is a versatile option. In general, they are suitable for all road surfaces and for different models of off-road vehicles. At the same time, the speed limit is 180 km / h - within these limits the trip will be safe with them.

AT is suitable for SUVs of all classes. The difference between these tires and the above is that they have a rougher tread pattern, which is designed in a similar way for the purpose of effective self-cleaning. Operation on them is acceptable both off-road and on hard surfaces. Top speed will be 20 km lower than HT marked tires.

The element of tires Mud Terrain - sandy and clay tracks, as well as mountain roads. These tires are called mud tires and they are designed for off-road travel. Their pattern has protection against side punctures and cuts. At the same time, the minimum speed is 160 km / h. It should be noted that on normal surfaces, these tires wear out quickly and have a high level of noise.

Belonging to a set of tires for winter tires is marked with a special marking in the form of a snowflake enclosed in a contour. We also note that such a designation as M + S indicates that such tires are not suitable for our winter. Most SUV tires made in the USA have this marking, and it can also be found occasionally on summer tires. But the North American climate is different from ours, and in order to operate a car in Russia, winter tires must have a number of certain properties that will make it safe to use in harsh conditions. Most importantly, it must withstand the temperature stresses of the Russian winter.

The choice of winter tires for SUVs should not be underestimated, as the wrong decision made when purchasing them can lead to an accident in the future. Universal tires that would be equally well adapted to different road conditions in all seasons have not yet been invented. It is worth remembering that winter tires, no matter how high-quality they are, will not be able to be used in the same conditions as in summer. The average speed will have to be reduced compared to what would be safe in the summer by at least 30%. The distance to the vehicle in front must be doubled.

Previously, SUVs were mostly marked "snow-mud", and therefore these wheels could be used throughout the year without changing them. Until some time, they could still be used in this way, but with an increase in the power of off-road vehicles and top speed, requests for the technical parameters of tires also increased. These tires have not previously been able to provide high safety in case of driving at high speed, and due to the changes that are made over time to off-road vehicles, it is becoming increasingly clear that the operation of such tires has already become impractical.

Top off-road tires

When producing summer and winter tires, the future conditions in which the tires will be used are taken into account. For this, special chemical compounds are being developed that will allow the tires made from them to be successfully used.

The best tires are said to be made in Scandinavia. The advantage of Finnish car rubber, for example, is its economy. By reducing rolling resistance, fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 5%. They have excellent traction and are incredibly durable and quiet.

Nokian HKPL 7 SUV is one of the leaders in winter tires for SUVs. With such a coating, the car will feel confident both on an icy track and on a snowy road. These tires are easy to brake and accelerate. They are the fastest on hard snow and on the ice circle, but they perform a little worse on the pavement: there are delays when steering, and the brakes work worse.

PirelliWinter Carving Edge is a good alternative to the Finnish Nokian. The advantage of these tires is that their price is much lower. An SUV with these tires will be good in snow and ice. They show good acceleration, are good in braking and cornering, from the minuses one can note such moments as a prolonged slip and a sharp recovery of grip after it. They easily cross the highest snowdrifts, they feel quite comfortable on the asph alt surface, they go smoothly, but it is noted that when changing the direction of movement, they respond with a noticeable delay.

But for those owners who rarely go out of town in winter, a set of tires like the Vredestein Arctrac is more suitable. They cling well to the ice layer during acceleration and braking. On such tires, it is better not to enter into turns, and also not to drive into a snowdrift above ground clearance.

Bridgestone IC5000 is a more budget option, yet versatile. But these tires have poor contact with ice, but their level is higher than that of the Maxis. On the snow they feel quite confident, they cope with snowdrifts without difficulty, and they are not afraid of slipping. They are included in the list of the best winter tires for asph alt, but, of course, they also have their drawbacks, for example, they cannot clearly enter turns, and skids appear on the curve, which are not so easy to deal with.
