Perhaps, some five or seven years ago, for the same Germans or Estonians, the purchase of a car in Lithuania was considered a very profitable undertaking. A solid industry has been built on this, affecting not only the countries of Europe, but also numerous republics of the former Soviet Union. The Lithuanian car market contained cars of different years that ran along the highways, which were then taken apart by buyers with a bang and taken away by auto transporters and rail transport in all directions. As a result, European brands (already worn out over many years of operation) managed to fill the entire Eurasian continent.
Not like before
However, with the introduction of new customs duties, everything has changed radically, and the Lithuanian car market has become noticeably thinner. The excitement gradually subsided. Although even today it is the Lithuanian car market that is ready to offer cars with a significantly lower cost than in neighboring countries. Previously, the favorable location of Lithuania played a role in the fact that all transport illiquid assets were brought into it. Well, on the market, all this was easily bought up and taken to those countries where there was either no own auto industry, or it was at an embryonic level.
It's no surprise that the Lithuanian car market (photo can be seen above) has become one of the most visited places by citizens of the former republics of the Soviet Union.
To today's days
Now a ten-year-old car, when passing through customs, is simply subject to gold payments relative to its cost. And the latest models, and if they are also in good condition, can cost fabulous money at all. Thus, today the car market in Lithuania, whose prices seem to be as reasonable as they were a few years ago, has in fact ceased to be profitable. It has become unprofitable for transporters to buy cars there in order to transport them through customs.
A good deed won't be wasted
However, the scheme as such has not disappeared. It was simply adjusted to the existing laws. Residents of the Russian capital, for example, and a number of other large metropolitan areas, can quite often observe foreign cars with B altic license plates. Carriers have learned to circumvent the law. Temporary importation is issued for vehicles purchased in Lithuania when crossing the border. It is renewed on the territory of Russia every 3 months. At the same time, the car is registered in a European country and may belong to a citizen of Lithuania.
During the purchase, the buyer and the sellermust exchange notarial receipts confirming the fact of sale. Of course, such a scheme is quite troublesome. There is a high chance of getting scammed. However, for experienced drivers, the Lithuanian car market is still a great opportunity to buy a quality Western European car in excellent condition at a very low cost. And finally. If you came to Lithuania and found a great car at an incredibly low price, carefully inspect the transport. Remember where the free cheese is? It is possible that the car was assembled from two or three vehicles that have been in a serious accident.
