BMW 5 Series is a business class car from the Bavarian company. During the release, this model has survived 6 generations and is now being produced in the seventh. It is one of the most popular cars from BMW. Let's get acquainted with this model closer.

History of generations

The first generation of the BMW 5 in the back of the E12 appeared in 1972. Car production continued until 1981. This sedan has not yet received a modified version of the M.

The E28 body was released in 1981, and the last model rolled off the assembly line in 1988. From the second generation, 4 and 6-cylinder engines were installed in the sedan, and the M sports package appeared.

The fourth generation BMW 5 Series E39 was produced from 1995 to 2004. The same thing happened with this model as with the previous one: first a sedan appeared, and a year later a station wagon was released.

The fifth generation was produced untiluntil 2010. In the back of the E60, the executive sedan has greatly changed in appearance, which is why the company's fans are divided into two camps. Those who really liked the new design and those who didn't like it.

The sixth generation in the back of the F10 can be attributed to the current BMW 5 Series models. The sedan was produced from 2010 to 2017. The lineup includes 4-door sedan, station wagon, fastback and long sedan for China and the Middle East.

New Generation

Finally, we got to the most modern and technologically advanced BMW 5 Series in the back of the G30. In addition to the sedan, the model range is complemented by the G31 station wagon and the extended G38 sedan. In this generation, the fastback was dropped from Series 5. Cars began to be produced in 2017 and are produced to this day. In addition to Germany, the car is also assembled in Kaliningrad. Exterior design

"Big" sedans from the Bavarian company are now as similar as possible. Besides the fact that the G30 is based on the body of the seventh series, their appearance from a distance is too similar. Anyone who does not follow the development of BMW models is unlikely to immediately determine which sedan is in front of him.

Also, the G30 can be mistaken for a restyling of the previous generation. External changes brought the car closer to the 7 series, but it retains the recognizable features of its class.

Some fans remain dissatisfied because all BMW modelsbecome similar to each other. But on the other hand, most owners are even glad that their car strongly resembles the 7 Series executive sedan.

The BMW 5 Series looks to match its class. Long lines of the hood, sharp and even side lines, expressive front bumper, LED headlights. As is tradition, the five received an optional M-series package, which includes new exhaust pipes and an aggressive bumper.

Car interior

The previous generation in the back of the F10 lagged far behind in terms of interior design and functionality from its competitor in the face of the Mercedes E-Class. In the new body, BMW corrected the situation in their favor so much so that the fifth series even surpasses the "seven" in terms of the number of technologies used. Here you have four-zone climate control, cruise control, autopilot, display, air freshener and ionizer, automatic parking system and much more. The only thing in which this model loses to the older 7 series is the quality of the leather upholstery. In the BMW 5, it is a little rougher, and only certain elements of the interior fit it.

The increase in the wheelbase could not but affect the free space inside. Now the rear is much more comfortable. It will not work to “fall apart” like on a sofa, but even a tall person can sit comfortably. This makes the 5 Series G30 look even better than the shorter version of the 7 Series.

Packages

BMW 5 Series is sold as standard by default. PerFor an additional fee, you can purchase an optional package. They can be divided into several categories: Business, Executive, Exclusive, Sport Line, Luxury. The M Sport version stands apart, for which you will have to pay extra from 290 to 380 thousand rubles. Depending on the chosen configuration, the car will cost from 2,800,000 rubles to 4,150,000 rubles.

As usual, the engine range is represented by several petrol and diesel units. All models are equipped with an automatic transmission.

Starting motors - 520i and 520d. The petrol version with 184 horsepower accelerates to hundreds in 7.8 seconds. The diesel engine develops 190 horses and consumes about 7.5 liters. The cost of a car starts from 2,890,000 rubles.

The following units are 530i and 530d. Both variants are equipped with an all-wheel drive transmission. More powerful and faster options at 249 horsepower with fuel consumption of 6.4 and 5.4 liters respectively.

The BMW 5 Series 540i is only available with a petrol engine. The motor develops 340 horsepower and accelerates to hundreds in just 4.8 seconds.

The M550i and M550d versions deserve a special mention as these engines are much more powerful than the others. The diesel version has 400 horsepower, and the petrol version is even more powerful - 462 horsepower.

Let's finish the review with a few basic facts that most owners of this car agree on.

All drivers agree on one thing - this is that the comfort and functionality of this sedan are at the highest level. At the same time, despite the increased dimensions, not many owners notice the increased space inside the cabin and note that the interior decoration has remained the same as in the F10.

There were no common shortcomings for most owners. Most often, the cons are associated with individual instances of the BMW 5 Series.
