Is the tricycle a motorcycle or a mini car? This is the question that first arises when looking at three-wheeled motorcycles. This miracle of engineering can be safely called an intermediate link.
Three-wheeled motorcycles are for some reason considered by many to be a Chinese invention. Probably, by analogy with rickshaws. However, the Japanese were the first to create a three-wheeled miracle. Chinese designers only improved Japanese developments and put them on stream. However, this is not new for China. But China is China, and the primacy still belongs to the Land of the Rising Sun. Three-wheeled motorcycles (China) "Honda" and "Toyota" presented at the Geneva Motor Show made a splash. For over 40 years, Toyota engineers have been working on technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere. They spent ten years creating the Toyota i-Road tricycle, and, I must say, not in vain. First appearing in Geneva, this half-motorcycle-half-machine immediately attracted everyone's attention.
Until now, the manufacturer has not fully disclosed the technical characteristics of his offspring. We only know that the lengthtricycle is 2350 cm, height - 1450 cm. The power unit consists of two motors with a total power of 2 kW.
Due to the dimensions of the three-wheeled motorcycles, parking problems will not arise. In addition, the side wheels provide them with excellent stability. Of the technical innovations of i-Road, a tilt compensator can be noted, which is connected to the front wheels. It is he who determines the optimal angle of the motorcycle in the turn.
By analogy with the Japanese invention, the Chinese presented their own version of the tricycle. And although at first glance, Chinese motorcycles look like a hybrid version of three-wheeled Honda and WWII scooters, their design and functionality have something of their own, purely individual.
Three-wheeled motorcycles from China are equipped with a 150-cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. He is paired with a conventional variator. But the gearbox on tricycles is a purely own development of Chinese designers, as well as the rear brake, which is made in the form of a pedal on the floor.
If the external design of Chinese tricycles still causes ironic smiles, then the driving performance of this technique inspires respect. We must pay tribute: the Chinese have created a very light tricycle. But the frontal area is somewhat large. Therefore, air resistance does not allow him to accelerate more than 85 km / h. Still, for a vehicle of this size, this is a very solid speed.
Well, now, as they say, about sore points - about quality. Fortunately, tricyclesChinese-made motorcycles are devoid of the shortcomings that their older brothers from the car family are so notorious for. All plastic elements are carefully adjusted. There are no horrendous gaps and protrusions. All joints are smooth. Nothing creaks. The howl of the engine is a bit annoying, but here, alas, you can’t cover it with a hood. But the main thing that can be attractive to Russian youth is the unlimited possibilities of tuning. By the way, the manufacturer also encourages this by offering a large number of tuning components, ranging from a 200-cc engine to sports CVTs.
