The UAZ-3170 model is a truly intriguing novelty. According to the developers, the concept of the car will be completely new. For the Ulyanovsk plant, as well as for the entire domestic automobile industry, this is far from an ordinary event. The last update of the line was made in 2005. It was "Patriot 3163". In fact, it was a restyled version of Simbiri. The new car promises to be a completely individual and practical unit. Let's try to figure out what is special about it.

General information

UAZ "Patriot" 3170 is the first model from Ulyanovsk designers, which goes into mass production with a load-bearing body. Various rumors circulated around the modification under consideration for a long time, which is associated with the secrecy of the project (typical for a plant focused on products for the army). However, information leaks still occurred. For example, it became known that the new SUV will be significantly separated from its predecessor in terms of equipment, but it will be based on the Patriot platform.

Basis

At the Ulyanovsk plant, the development of a fundamentally new platform has been going on for more than one year. Tofor example, in 2005, based on the SsangYong Musso, a prototype was created with the body of a not yet serial Patriot. Subsequently, attempts were made to develop this direction by using the SsangYong and Chiron components. However, such frame structures remained in single copies.

The serial UAZ-3163 remains unchanged in design, receiving some improvements and updates. The next modernization of the SUV came in 2014, already under the current director of the plant, Evgeny Galkin. Now the design team is actively working on creating a version of the UAZ-3170, which does not yet have its own name.

In April 2016, Deputy Director A. Matasov shared information that the modification would be equipped with a load-bearing body, and also confirmed the assumptions about the strikingly large difference between the Patriot and the new SUV. As experts suggest, this is the first crossover made at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant.

There was an opinion that the new car will receive a platform that was designed as part of the "Cortege" program. However, the representative office of the Sollers group, which owns a car factory in Ulyanovsk, withdrew from the project, intending to design the model on its own.

Powertrain

Presumably, the engine that will be installed on the updated UAZ "Patriot" 3170 (2016) is a gasoline unit with a volume of 2.7 lira and a capacity of 128 horsepower. Besides,a 2.2 liter diesel engine with 114 “horses” is available.

Since the designers have conceived the modernization of the power plant together with the specialists of the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant, we can expect that the updated model will be equipped with a new motor, which has a smaller volume with higher power ratings.

In 2016, ZMZ engineers finalized the design of the engine, replacing the problem node in the form of a tension roller with a more modern analogue. In addition, it is planned to transfer engines in accordance with Euro-5 standards. The modification is also being tested on liquefied natural gas. If the installation successfully passes the tests, it is possible that it will appear on the UAZ-3170 crossover. Transmission unit

Data is slipping that the updated gasoline engine will be aggregated with an automatic transmission. Moreover, it can appear on a regular "Patriot" and on a new SUV. The introduction of automatic transmission into the design of the car has already been undertaken, but the project was frozen due to the crisis and the lack of a supplier offering a good quality unit at an affordable price. Most likely, the search for such a dealer will become relevant again in the near future.

Designers are developing a box with six ranges of their own production, and proposals from other engineering companies are also being considered. According to unconfirmed reports, the Dymos checkpoint (South Korean firm) is in priority. The Patriot already has severalelements from this manufacturer, in particular an electronically controlled transfer case. In addition, a new type of manual transmission for the crossover is being developed.

Exterior changes

The exterior of the new car UAZ "Patriot" 3170 has changed slightly. A modified radiator grille appeared, as well as an enlarged corporate emblem, which makes the SUV recognizable. It is worth noting that the gas tank hatch was removed from the left side of the hull, now there is no need to guess which side to approach the car at a gas station. The designers installed a single fuel tank, eliminating the need to install an additional transfer pump. In addition, the fuel tank material has also changed. As for noise and vibration isolation, the UAZ-3170 of 2016 left its predecessor decently. There was additional protection of the engine compartment, floor, doors, roof. An additional second circuit made it possible to reduce the noise level by 7-8 dB. This is a very significant indicator, which makes it possible not to shout to the driver with passengers, but to communicate in a calm tone. This does not distract the driver from the road, and passengers are not annoyed by annoying extraneous sounds.

Stabilization system

The stabilization system of the UAZ-3170 car, the photo of which is available above, is one of the most significant innovations. The main work was carried out in Germany, ESP tuning was carried out after testing on various tracks at different times of the year. The result turned out to be worthy.

It cannot be said that the stabilization system is a whim and unnecessary expenses. In fact, ESP allows you to stabilize the movement on a slippery surface, as well as keep the vehicle on a steep slope using the special Hill Hold Control option.

Also, the stabilization system has an off-roada mode that makes it possible to remain active at speeds up to 60 km / h. Features

At first, the power unit remains the same. He has enough power at a stretch, which is not a special secret. It is planned to equip new modifications with turbine supercharged units. Current plants are also undergoing improvements in terms of reliability and productivity. At ZMZ, it was decided to introduce comprehensive measures to eliminate such an unpleasant defect as a broken timing belt. The idler pulley has received a new design, improved protection against dirt and dust, as well as an increased working life.

It is planned that the 2017 UAZ-3170 will be equipped with a transfer case control lever, tires with deep and studded tread, a winch built into the front bumper, increased protection of the bottom, as well as other innovations that make it easier to drive over rough terrain. Other pleasant surprises remain "behind the scenes" for now.

Another updated element is the plastic fuel tank. Its strength tests were carried out by applying a mechanical shock with a steel core with a diameter of 70 millimeters. As experts note, the new UAZ-3170 received two cars as its main competitors ("Ford Kuga" and "Volkswagen Tiguan"). This allows us to classify the new domestic SUV as a compact urban crossover. According to the developers, the car will be equipped with an independent suspension, a load-bearing body and several engine models. According to a company representative, the equipment and characteristics of the domestic crossover will not be inferior to at least the Kuge and Tiguan, while having a more attractive price.

Pricing policy

Approximately the price range for the UAZ "Patriot" 3170 (2016) will vary from one to one and a half million rubles, depending on the equipment and additional functionality. The amount is quite decent, therefore, in order to find its niche in the market, the car should not be much more expensive than the Patriot, and its capabilities should be no worse than Korean and Chinese counterparts. How the developers will be able to bring this to life, time will tell. I would like to believe that the designers will find the right solution, and the Russian crossover will gain widespread popularity.

Launch into serial production

The finish line for the launch of the SUV in question is considered to be 2020. There is information that the car will be presented to the general public a year earlier. It is assumed that the release of "Patriot" and the new UAZ-3170, the photo of which is higher, will be carried out in parallel. As a result, the updated platform should become the main base for the production of subsequent modifications. Full replacement of the base is planned to take place no earlier than 2022year.

At present, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant continues to actively work on changing the quality control system, improving the work of dealers, optimizing the functionality of logistics centers and freeing up production capacities for a new model. It remains to wait a bit to see firsthand the final version of another UAZ SUV.

Many users hope that the new model will be a worthy competitor to its Western counterparts. Car owners believe that domestic designers can create a worthy option, despite all the problems that the Russian auto industry is experiencing. Some consumers treat this project with obvious skepticism, citing the fact that similar attempts have already been made that did not give any special results.
