Like on any other car, on the VAZ 2110 the pump is a simple pump that transfers cooling liquid through the engine. This is an important link in the cooling mechanism: the design distills the coolant and supplies it to the circuits.

On a VAZ 2110 car, the pump is located on the right side of the cylinders themselves. And it works from the speed of the timing, which drives the gear drive of the car.

There are six standard indicators based on which a pump failure is determined.

  1. An unusual sound appears near the timing belt.
  2. Traces of streaks at the location of the pump.
  3. Damaged timing belt (cracked or stretched).
  4. Motor too hot.
  5. Even if you add antifreeze, the coolant level drops below normal.
  6. Partial passage of fluid through the mechanism.

Most often, pump failure is the result ofbearing failures. And the bearing breaks due to insufficient tension of the timing belt. If such malfunctions are found, it is better to completely replace the pump.

What could be the consequences

If the pump is not repaired in time, the following problems may occur.

  • Completely wears out and breaks timing. The belt needs to be replaced and the cylinder head, coolant distribution system and the pistons themselves repaired.
  • Engine overheating.
  • The rubber parts of the cooling mechanism, the cylinder head and the rubber parts of the pistons melt.

If you follow the technical characteristics of the car, the pump and timing belt are changed every 40-50 thousand kilometers or in case of premature wear.

The approximate price of a new pump will be 900 rubles, and replacement at a service station will be approximately 1,000 rubles. If it is not financially possible to carry out a replacement at a service station, you can do it yourself.

Of course, if you decide to change the pump yourself, you need to buy a new one. There are a number of important selection rules:

  1. The part named must be from a trusted manufacturer.
  2. Please note: the VAZ 2110 pump has 16 valves.
  3. Check for factory packaging.
  4. The kit should include a gasket.
  5. Warranty needs to be checked.

How to replace

After purchasing a newpump, start replacing the old one. The diagram below is used for a VAZ 2110 car:

  • The machine must be on a flat surface, for example, on a flyover. To turn off the power to the car, remove the terminal on the battery.
  • Remove the fluid reservoir cap. This is done to relieve excess pressure in the mechanism.
  • Install a clean container with a volume of at least 5 liters under the cylinder console.
  • With the key on 13, remove the cap from the tank and drain the antifreeze. When there is no liquid left, replace the cap.
  • Using the ten key, remove the fasteners that hold the timing belt. Move the crankshaft to the TCM of the main cylinder to the maximum value.
  • Turn until the dots on the timing drive match up. After checking the marks, you need to remove the plug on the crankcase. It is rubber and stands to the right of the cylinders.
  • Lock the crankshaft in this position. Loosen the main nut of the tension roller a little, for this use the key on 17.
  • You can check the roller by rotating it clockwise. Now you can remove the tension roller from the belt.
  • After that, you can remove all other fasteners. The pump is held on by 3 hex mounts.
  • Before removing the pump on the VAZ 2110, lift its body, after which it can be easily removed.
  • Wash the marks from the old gasket, they usually remain in the seats.

Note: If you do not have enough skill in car repair, it is better to entrust the replacement to an experienced mechanic.
