Audi 100 C4 is the fourth generation of the most popular sedan, the predecessor of the equally famous A6. It was introduced to the world at the end of 1990, but production began only in January 1991. I must say, the German company acted quite wisely and did not wait for the finalization of the entire engine line: initially there were only 2 of them, but more on that later.

The design of the Audi 100 C4 has become much more dynamic, at the same time smoother than previous generations. The corners were almost completely excluded from the overall concept. The taillights were now divided into vertical sections only, and the headlights received rounded fairings instead of flat ones.

This sedan wasn't exactly a luxury sedan, but its exceptional build quality, combined with fine materials, put it on par with big-name competitors such as the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz W124. I must say, he fought well with them for the choice of clients. Here, as standard, airbags, steeringretractable column on impact, self-adjusting seat belts with pretensioners, and fine wood inlays.

This also includes air conditioning, leather interior of excellent quality, as well as a four-stage torque converter, of course, this is only in the options, although their price was not too high. In general, the Audi C4 became an excellent choice for true connoisseurs of German quality. Full galvanization, which provided a guarantee of up to three years for the paintwork and 10 years for the body, was another significant factor pushing to choose the Audi 100. Reviews say the same, cases of repair under warranty are almost isolated.

Now a little about the technical side. Among the motors you can find a variety of configurations. For example, there were already two diesel engines, they had volumes of 2.4 and 2.5 liters. Power - 82 and 116 "horses", respectively, but such configurations were in little demand among buyers. Gasoline engines were represented by two-liter in-line fours (101 and 116 horsepower), five-cylinder 2.3 liters (133 horses) and two six-cylinders. The latter have gained astonishing popularity despite their volume.

One of these units was in-line, the second had a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders. A small difference in working volumes (2.6 and 2.8 liters) made it possible to achieve similar performance in terms of power (150 and 174 hp). But that's not all.

Shortly after the presentationwas released station wagon (Audi 100 C4 Avant), which immediately became like hot cakes. The fact is that he combined the excellent dynamic characteristics that he borrowed from the sedan with a good capacity (trunk volume when fully loaded was 1310 liters). It was installed, of course, in the top configuration, V8, the power of which was two hundred and thirty horsepower.

Production of the Audi 100 C4 continued until mid-1994, after which it sank into oblivion. It was replaced by an even more comfortable A6 sedan. You should not write off the “weave” from the accounts, it will be possible to meet it on Russian roads for a long time, because its popularity knows no bounds.
