However, the Yamaha TDM 850 is not without flaws. The main ones are:

From 1996 to 1999, Yamaha produced a redesignedYamaha TDM modification. The changes mainly concerned the camber angle of each of the cylinders, which began to be 90 degrees. This engine received the characteristics of a V-shaped engine. At the same time, the motorcycle increased speed more smoothly and easily reacted to the throttle. And in 1998 they changed the clutch and changed the gear ratio, equipping the engine with a new carburetor. The old BDST was replaced by the BDSR which featured new diaphragms and springs. Therefore, the chambers now opened smoothly, filling the cylinders with fuel without much haste.

Such innovations reassured the drivers, it gave comfort to the passengers. After all, a dense traffic flow requires increased gas sensitivity. Therefore, the changes had a positive effect on the Yamaha TDM 850 model. The changes also affected the appearance of the motorcycle.

The dashboard has been completely redesigned. An analog speedometer was installed in it, as well as a digital counter for total and daily runs. The new model has lost the fuel cock, which was replaced by a red eye, located in the corner of the fuel gauge.

This “know-how” allowed the Yamaha TDM 850 to take a leading position in the sales ranking. Competitors, of course, rushed to catch up with the rival, throwing into the market: Suzuki V-Strom, Honda Varadero and Ducati Multistrada. This pushed the TDM 850, however, he retained leadership.

Seeing such problems, Yamaha was forced to show the Yamaha TDM900 motorcycle in 2002, which turned out to be more technically advanced, covering the problems of the previousdesigns.

However, it is the Yamaha TDM 850 that enjoys “popular love”. This is also due to the fact that prices for such a motorcycle fall over time, so it becomes more affordable. However, it's not really that simple. It even seems very high, large and wide. Processing into a fan bike still benefited such a motorcycle, giving it attractiveness and solidity.

It should finally be said that the bike is really high - 85 cm relative to the saddle. The scope of the steering wheel does not bring any special surprises. I would especially like to express an opinion about the engine. Although it is not perfection itself, however, it pulls extremely solidly, is reliable and quietly “rumbles”.
