Yaroslavl motors

In 1958, the automobile plant in Yaroslavl (YaAZ) was transformed into a motor plant (YaMZ), for the mass production of diesel engines. At first, the enterprise produced YaAZ-206 and YaAZ-204 diesel engines (from 110 to 225 hp), which were equipped with previously produced trucks, transferred for further production to the KrAZ automobile plant in Kremenchug.

In 1961, the company began producing power units of its own design YaMZ 236, 238 and 240. The new engines had a unified design, and the main difference was the number of cylinders. Such a design solution made it possible to increase the diesel power, primarily due to an increase in the number of cylinders, from six (YaMZ 236) to ten (YaMZ 240).

YAMZ 238M2 engine

The successful design of the YaMZ 238 diesel engine made it possible to carry out numerous upgrades in order to improve technical parameters and create various modifications to complete numerous options for machinery and equipment. Currently, the plant continues to produce 22 modifications of 238 motors, including those with the M2 index.

The YaMZ 238M2 engine replaced the model with the “M” index in the production line and has been produced since 1988. The diesel power unit is characterized by the following main features:

• with a special oil pan device that allows the operation of a diesel engine in conditions of increased roll and strong trim;
• fuel supply system, made in a separate version with direct injection;
• reduced oil consumption YaMZ 238M2;
• lack of turbocharging;
• piston type booster pump.
