Modifications

Today, three modifications of the MAZ-5516 remain in mass production:

1. Version 5516A5 is equipped with a YaMZ-6582.10 (Euro-3) diesel power plant. The power rating is 330 horsepower (243 kW).
2. Model 5516A8 is equipped with a more powerful series of motors (based on YaMZ-7511.10E2). Their strength is 400 "horses. Both modifications have Yaroslavl gearshift units, a dump platform with three-way unloading. Carrying capacity - 20 tons.
3. The truck serial number 5516W4-420 is fitted with Cummins engines. They comply with the Euro-4 standard, have a power rating of 300 horses, and are aggregated with a nine-range gearbox. The tipper platform of the car has a "trough" configuration, it functions only with the rear type of unloading. The standard load capacity is 15 tons.

They have a paired main mode, five working steps, a planetary gearbox (with a gear ratio of 7.24). With foreign motors, a mechanical transmission is aggregated into nine modes such as ZF 9S-109 or JS-135 / TA. These nodes are more responsive and efficient, but also more expensive.

The trucks in question use a Yaroslavl-made clutch (184-15). It is a dry friction block with a single disc, diaphragm exhaust spring, asbestos-free friction linings. The driven element is equipped with an elasticfastening elements and spring-friction damper.

Steering and brakes

Pretty respectable dimensions of the MAZ-5516 suggest the presence of an effective steering with a built-in distributor, main steering wheel, column, power cylinder, pump, pipelines and oil reservoir.

Cab

Like the body of the MAZ-5516, the cab of the truck has recognizable features and a typical configuration for these vehicles. The element is rectangular with rounded corners. An impressive front bumper serves as passive protection. The designers have developed an elongated and standard version of the cab. The degree of comfort is minimal.

Interior fittings

The seat is equipped with devices for vertical and horizontal adjustment, the backrest is adjustable in tilt angle. By special order, the manufacturer also installs headrests and elbow pads.

In the extended version of the cabin, the shelves are placed behind the backs of the "seats", easily separated from the working area with the help of partitions or curtains. There is a storage box on the tunnel, which is also used as a table. Good visibility is provided by a high driving position and multi-level side rear-view mirrors. The seat belts are equipped with three fixation points, guarantee the reliable retention of the driver and passengers in case of emergency. This equipment applies to modern dump trucks MAZ-5516.

Until the mid-nineties of the last century, Soviet pragmatism, minimal attention to comfort and asceticism prevailed here. Double-panel doors are made of sheet steel by stamping, welded and rolled around the perimeter. In the middle of the inner part of the door, hatches are provided for installing and dismantling glass, a lock and a rotary-type locking mechanism drive.
