French automobile manufacturer Renault has dozens of first-class models, from compact subcompacts to large executive class limousines. Some cars stand out from the general model range due to their extraordinary technical characteristics, as well as the exclusivity of the exterior design. These cars include Renault 19, which began production in 1988.
The machine immediately confidently took its place in the European market in several modifications. First of all, these were two hatchbacks, a five-door for five seats and a three-door for four seats. They were closely followed by a 5-seater four-door sedan and closed this model chain by a two-door convertible with two rows of seats. Renault 19 was produced at several factories in France, Turkey and Latin America. Renault's policy in the early nineties was focused on the general consumer. The task of the directorate was to produce large batches of cars of such quality,against which no buyer could resist. And this task was successfully carried out. Renault 19 was a flawless car, easy to drive, with a high level of comfort, economical and agile.
Sellers tried to keep the price within mass availability. This was possible due to the low cost of basic units and the relatively inexpensive configuration of the car. Low prices for components, components and assemblies, as well as inexpensive assembly at Latin American factories, made it possible to repeatedly modify the Renault 19, we see the photo on the page, improving the design and improving the main indicators of the chassis, engine and transmission. The car became the standard in its class, the technical characteristics were already becoming redundant, when the car of the middle class could no longer be improved, its parameters reached their limit. However, the Renault design bureaus still found the use of high engineering.
A unique system of emergency absorption of the kinetic shift of the engine and the entire metal mass located in the engine compartment was created. In the new format, the engine with gearbox was mounted on a special channel profile frame, which, in turn, was attached to the side members of the base frame. In a head-on collision, the design took the blow, the inertia was extinguished and the engine no longer entered the passenger compartment, as was the case with conventional cars. Thus, Renault 19 became the most safety car of its time, in conditional terms. Otherwise, the passive safety of the car was also at a fairly high level, four emergency airbags protected the driver and passenger in the front seat from injury, and the rear seat was equipped with effective inertial seat belts that could withstand any tension.
The number of modifications that Renault 19 has made over the years of production is simply incalculable. But it is reliably known that there were more than a hundred of them. The most significant and notable development was the modification of the Renault 19 Europe, produced at an automobile plant in Turkey. Some modifications of the basic character were kept until the very end of production in 1995, when the Renault Megane replaced the Renault 19. On the main conveyors, the production of Renault 19 ceased, but the car was assembled at peripheral plants for another 7 years, until 2002.
