The modern market of automotive products offers a wide range of batteries from domestic and foreign manufacturers with worldwide names. One of the largest manufacturers of batteries is the Ekside concern. The American company produces various automotive products, including Exide batteries for cars.

Company History

Exide Technologies was founded in 1888 in Philadelphia. The Exide brand itself appeared only in 1900. Prior to that, a company called the Electric Storage Battery Company was formed in the United States, founded by entrepreneur William Warren Gibbs. The expression Excellent Oxide, which was born after the creation of a new method of obtaining oxides for batteries, became the basis for the brand name Exide.

Representatives of the company claim that a significant contribution to their concern was made by the eminent Thomas Edison, who was the founder of the Edison Storage Battery Company, which later became part of Exide. The merger with such a firm gave impetus to the company, which quickly became a technological leader among manufacturers of automotive batteries. First launchstarter was made in 1913 with an Exide battery.

The modern concern Exide also includes the European battery manufacturer Tudor. The innovative technology for the industrial production of Pb batteries was patented in the 19th century. The first Tudor Accumulator factory was opened in Spain in 1897. One of the divisions of the concern before the revolution was in St. Petersburg. This plant operates to this day, producing alkaline batteries. Tudor in the 80s of the last century was considered one of the world's largest manufacturers: the volume of production per year was up to a million batteries, the sale of which was carried out on the territory of 50 countries.

Exide management began a massive merger with major European starter battery companies in the 1990s. The renowned Tudor company was acquired in 1994. At the same time, large sums were invested in production, promotion of products and development of the retail network.

One of the companies that was taken over by the Exide concern was the German Hagen Batteries. The production was located near the city of Hagen, in the Ruhr region. Hagen brand batteries are still produced in Germany, they are popular due to their affordable price and high quality. The Exide Science and Technology Center is located in Büdingen, Germany.

American company GND Technologies was acquired by Exide in 2000. In the Asian and American market, it was considered the leaderfor the production of industrial batteries. At the same time, Exide Corporation was renamed Exide Technologies. Over the years, the concern has accumulated considerable experience, which allowed it to become a leader in the production of rechargeable batteries.

Today, Exide Premium and Exide car batteries are manufactured by one of the corporation's divisions - Exide Transportation, industrial batteries are produced by a subsidiary of GNB Industrial Power.

Development of the concern

Research centers of Exide concern are located in different countries, including Spain and Germany. Engineers and employees of the centers regularly release production and technological innovations, and there is an active cooperation with automobile concerns in order to test the released models of Exide batteries.

All production facilities of the group are ISO/TS certified. The company's representatives say that the emphasis in the production of batteries is on efficiency, high quality and reducing the negative impact on the environment.

The Group's latest innovations were:

Batteries for Classic cars

Exide Classic line batteries are considered to be one of the most affordable and proven by many years of practice models. Using such batteries, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, is best on cars with standard equipment.

The devices are equipped with a removable bar with plugs, thanks to which the car owner can at any time measure the density of the electrolyte, top up with distilled water if necessary.

The Classic battery range is considered the most economical and is recommended for standard vehicles.

Batteries of Excell model

Exide's Excell battery range is one of the most sought after in Exide's product range. At the heart of the battery is a technology proven over the yearsCa-ca. Despite the fact that such models are maintenance-free, their design allows you to remove the lid, thereby opening access to the banks. This is enough to check the electrolyte level and density.

The advantages of this line of batteries include high starting power, a wide range of models and versatility: batteries of the Excellent series can be installed on a car of any brand and model.

Premium line

For cars equipped with a large number of electronics, a series of Exide Premium batteries is intended: EA640, 100 and other models. The production of the line is based on Carbon Boost technology, due to which the battery charge time is reduced by one and a half times. The technology is based on the introduction of carbon additives into the material of negative electrodes.

Reviews on Exide Premium batteries confirm the advantage of the series indicated by the manufacturer, in the form of an increase in starting power by 30 percent. In addition, as mentioned above, the battery charge time is reduced by one and a half times.

Exide Start-Stop EFB Series

Exide gel batteries are the first models that were released by the concern over ten years ago. Among the WET class batteries, this series is considered the most progressive. Such batteries are installed on cars equipped with the Start-Stop system and represent an affordable version of AGM batteries.

Exide Start-Stop AGM line

Batteries created using AGM technology are currently successfully used in cars equipped with a Start-Stop system and a large number of electronics.

For the assembly of Exide EA640 batteries, the following materials are used: an alloy of lead and tin with various additives, fiberglass with a developed surface. This design and good protection allows the use of devices on water vehicles.

Batteries of this series easily cope with the reception of a deep charge, giving a high starting current even when fully discharged. In addition, their operation is almost completely safe, since there is no liquid electrolyte. Separately, it is worth noting the fact that these batteries are equipped with a VRLA gas recombination system.

1. Start AGM. Batteries from this series are installed on water vehicles. Differ in the increased resistance to vibration influences and high starting current. They are equipped with a durable plastic case, so they are well protected from moisture.
2. Dual AGM. Dual-purpose batteries used to start the engine and power various current consumers, provided they are deeply discharged. Often such batteries are used to power electric motors. They are characterized by a fast recovery process after a full discharge and a long service life.
