Tutaev Motor Plant (TMZ)
The manufacturer of reliable and modern diesel power units Tutaevsky Motor Plant (Yaroslavl Region) was founded in 1968, and has been producing products since 1973. Initially, these were elements of the piston group for the YaMZ engine line. In 1977, TMZ switched to independent production of YaMZ-8421 diesel engines, modern at that time.
Further development of the enterprise is connected with the development and production of new engines for various heavy equipment and industrial applications. Also, the plant mastered the production of gearboxes, which increased the range of products.
Currently, TMZ is a modern technological complex for the production of diesel power units for various purposes, gearboxes and spare parts. In addition, the plant provides maintenance and repair of manufactured units.
TMZ products
The mosta large volume of products manufactured by the plant are diesel engines for various purposes. According to their application, TMZ engines are divided (the number of models produced):
- automotive - 6 pieces;
- tractor - 5 pieces;
- industrial for mobile power plants - 3 pcs.;
- special for diesel locomotives and ships - 4 pcs.;
- promising engines for new equipment for various purposes - 5 pcs.
The gearboxes produced by the enterprise are designed for use in the transmission of various heavy equipment. TMZ produces the following gearbox models:
- YAMZ-2381.
- YAMZ-2381-300.
The service direction of the company includes:
- release of spare parts for TMZ engines;
- maintenance and repair of self-produced units;
- manufacture of forgings for various purposes.
Data on TMZ diesels
Despite the variety of applications, TMZ engines by their design have a number of common parameters, among which we should highlight:
- Type of diesel - four-stroke, turbocharged.
- Working volume - 17 l.
- Number of cylinders - 8 pieces
- Cylinder arrangement - V-shaped with a camber angle of 90 degrees.
- Stroke (cylinder diameter) - 14 (14) cm.
- Number of valves per cylinder - 4 (2 intake, 2 exhaust).
- Diesel compression ratio - 15, 5.
Manufactured TMZ engines according to their characteristics candiffer in the following indicators:
- power - from 270 to 500 liters. p.;
- speed - 1500-2000 rpm;
- fuel consumption (at rated power) - 146-168 g / l. s.-h.;
- normative resource – 7500-12000 h.
Design features
Produced TMZ engines have a great unification, which should include common basic elements:
- cylinder-piston mechanism;
- crankshaft group;
- cylinder block;
- oil cooler;
- fuel equipment;
- starter;
- fan drive clutch.
Individually for each model in the engine device apply:
- cylinder head (aluminum);
- turbochargers;
- pistons (forced diesels);
- pneumatic compressors.
The power units differ in design solutions (options):
- flywheel housing - 3;

- crankshaft pulley - 2;
- oil sump – 2;
- fan – 2;
- mounting brackets – 4;

Even taking into account the large unification of engines, the combination of design differences, various components and diesel equipment allows the company to produce a wide range of power units with different characteristics, which ensures the widespread use of TMZ engines.

Engine Service
Reliable trouble-free operation of a diesel engine, as well as a long period of its operation, is largely ensured by timely and high-quality maintenance (TO). It is necessary to carry out such maintenance work in a regulated time frame and throughout the entire period of the working cycle of the power unit. It is best to carry out the maintenance of the equipment simultaneously with the service work of the entire machine.
For TMZ diesel engines, according to the operating regulations, the following types of work are provided:
- Daily (UTO). Held once a day after the end of work.
- TO-1. Performed every 250 hours of engine operation.
- TO-2. Carried out after 750 hours of diesel operation.
- Seasonal maintenance (S). Held when the season changes for further operation.
- Initial MOT. To be performed after the first 30 hours of use of the power package.
When performing maintenance for TMZ engines, the company recommends checking various sealing gaskets, the condition of the rings and copper washers. If a malfunction is found, replace them.
