The domestically produced GAZ 53 truck cannot be overestimated: over its entire production period, it has become the most common "medium-duty truck" on the territory of the Soviet Union. This truck was produced from 1961 to 1992. Over 30 years, more than four million units of such equipment have rolled off the Gorky conveyor.

It was used in all branches of agriculture and actively delivered products to many cities of the USSR. On its basis, military and municipal equipment was designed. And now you can see "GAZ 53" - a dump truck, a fuel truck, a milk truck, a cement truck, a thermal food van and many other modifications. They were all made with a 4x2 wheel formula and were rear-wheel drive. The novelty, thanks to its high ground clearance (25 centimeters), had a high cross-country ability and perfectly overcame obstacles.

Development history

The legendary worker "GAZ" had an all-metal cab. Three people fit freely in it, despitethat the seat was one for all. Simply put, the seat was a huge sofa on which you can not only ride, but even sleep. The overall design of the cabin was borrowed from the similar "ZIL 130" - protruding wings and a long hood. Because of this, the area of \u200b\u200bthe cabin was very small. The entire instrument panel trim was metallic. At that time, no one, unfortunately, even thought about comfort.

Design changes

For the entire period of production, the design of the front cladding has changed three times on the machine. It is worth saying that the engineers did not touch the technical part, and for 30 years it has not changed. In the first decade of production, the headlights on it were located on top, and sidelights - on the bottom. In the mid-70s of the last century, slight changes were made to the design - the radiator lining and the main headlights, placed below, together gave the truck the appearance of a smile. With this design, "GAZ" was produced until 1985. In that year, the factory made the last significant change to the cockpit. So, the new trucks had a larger fascia with new position headlights.

"GAZ 53" was so popular that a passenger bus "KAVZ" model 685 was designed on its elongated chassis. A tractor was also made from the chassis. But it was produced in small quantities (while the ZIL tractor was mass-produced), and today it is almost impossible to meet such a "GAZon".

Simplicity was everywhere – frommodest interior ending with the engine and gearbox. Thanks to this, the repair, for example, of the rear axle, or the adjustment of the GAZ 53 valves, was not difficult. All it took was a couple of tools and an instruction manual.

For export

The Gorky Automobile Plant also produced an export version in a tropical version, which was called "GAZ 53-50/70". It was actively supplied to Cuba, Vietnam, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Finland and even China. Since the end of the 60s, the Madara plant was built in the Bulgarian town of Shumen, which was engaged in the production of the corresponding car kits.

This truck is considered a real legend of the USSR.
