The legendary domestic trucks ZIL-130 and 131 have been produced for almost half a century. The machines were actively used in the defense, industrial and agricultural sectors. The cars were distinguished by reliability, simple design and good carrying capacity. In many ways, excellent parameters were achieved by equipping the K-88A modification with a practical ZIL-130 carburetor. It rarely broke down, was easily repaired, just serviced.
A Brief History
Maximum working life was provided with the correct setting of the unit. These truck brands can still be found today. Taking into account the fact that their serial production has ceased, it is only possible to purchase cars in the secondary market. In addition, the machines are morally obsolete, as are the structural parts. Nevertheless, on surviving specimens, adjustment of the main running and propulsion elements is often required.
Description
The K-88A carburetor, unlike its predecessor, is not equipped with a pneumatically actuated economizer valve, which greatly simplifies the mechanism. In the device designincludes four main elements:
- Air inlet core.
- Float compartment.
- Mixing chambers.
- Diaphragm type actuator.
The last mechanism serves to limit the maximum speed of the crankshaft of the motor. The body parts are cast zinc alloy and the mixing part is cast gray iron.
Features
In the core of the air inlet there is a special damper with enlarged passage channels and a coil spring. The collapsible type valve is equipped with a cotter pin, an additional round hole is provided in the atmospheric damper.
The float chamber has a ball valve as well as an intermediate pusher assembly. The activation of the valve is corrected by means of a special mechanism with a stem, a shaped nut, a spring. The block is fixed rigidly on the guide rail with a flared top.
ZIL-130 carburetor device
Before starting the adjustment of the unit in question, it is necessary to study its structure and principle of operation. On the 130th and 131st ZILs, two-chamber devices with a downward flow of the air mixture and a pair of fuel bundles are mounted. The working compartments are placed in a single block, they operate in parallel in all modes of the motor.
The ZIL-130 carburetor is made in such a way that the driver can adjust it without dismantling and disassembling. Adjustment is carried out using special screws. Hereincluded:
- adjusting elements for controlling the quality of the fuel mixture for idling;
- throttle stop screw;
- detail for adjusting the number of revolutions;
- Jet retainer.
Installation of the ZIL-130 carburetor and its detailed configuration is more difficult, the above knowledge and elementary locksmith skills are enough for standard adjustment. Major repairs, installation and dismantling works are best entrusted to qualified specialists.
Step-by-step instructions for adjusting the ZIL-130 carburetor
Unstable idling is one of the most painful places of the ZIL-130/131. The problem is manifested by a malfunction of the cylinder block due to poor-quality fuel. Symptoms - unstable idle speed and engine "swimming". Solving the problem is not that difficult. The screws correct the work in stages.
The process is as follows:
- First, the screw responsible for the quality of the fuel is completely tightened. After bringing it to the stop, it is weakened by 3-5 turns. This will achieve the optimal composition of the rich mixture supplied to the cylinder block.
- Then, the screw for the amount of mixture supply is tightened to the stop. It must be loosened no more than three turns.
- Start the engine, wait for the car to warm up with the ignition on.
- Using a screwdriver, adjust the operation of the ZIL-130 carburetor so that the power unit runs at 800 rpm in idle mode.
- The next step closesscrew for the quality of the fuel supply until the engine “sneezes”. It also loosens 0.5 turns.
- The regulator is screwed down until the next failure in the uniform operation of the motor, it is loosened by half a turn.
Main malfunctions
How to adjust the ZIL-130 carburetor, discussed above. Now you need to understand the causes of breakdowns and breakdown of the unit. Not every problem of the specified site can be solved using the above tips. Often the device requires complex repairs or professional replacement of components. Four problems associated with the ZIL-130 carburetor, which are solved independently without the participation of a car service, are given below:
- Presence of condensation. This is one of the most common faults. The reason is the low quality of fuel. Foreign substances contained in gasoline, up to water and unknown components, enter the fuel tank. Condensation also forms as a result of year-round operation of the car, including in winter. Bad fuel freezes, causing condensation to form. The solution to the problem is the use of quality gasoline.
- Extraneous sounds, reminiscent of clapping or gunshots. The first of two reasons for this problem is poor quality gasoline, which is why a lean air-fuel mixture is supplied to the ZIL-130 carburetor. It ignites partially, and during the operation of the unit, shoots and pops are heard. The second reason is jet clogging. These elements are cleaned with air under pressure or washedspecial solution. With correctly performed manipulations, extraneous sounds will disappear.
- Mechanical clogging of the assembly. In this case, no fuel enters the carburetor. The problem is solved by disassembling the unit with its thorough cleaning. All tubing connections and hose are also checked for defects.
- Carburettor overflow. A fairly common problem associated with excessive supply of gasoline. To eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to adjust the air mixture quality screw. If the problem cannot be solved, the spark plugs are changed, since they are often the cause of the indicated breakdown.
Arrangement of the "return"
Do drivers often think about how to make a "return" on the ZIL-130 carburetor? This scheme is carried out using a tee. Additionally, you will need a hose that can withstand the pressure of the fuel supply. The length of the element is not less than 0.7 meters. The kit also includes a fuel pump filter, a non-return valve and several metal mounting clamps.
Some craftsmen advise using a modernized version of the jet, with a processed fitting and threading. In the plug, the hole is made smaller than on the fitting. To save money, use well-preserved used hoses and fasteners.
Further stages of work:
- Heating the plug with a soldering iron.
- Putting a fitting in it.
- Screwing the jet.
- Separation by cutting off the end of the filter, which will allow you to place the element on the protrusion of the nozzle with some force.
At the final stage, a line is drawn to the fuel tank. The native "crab" plug is replaced with an improved version. Mount the part near the fitting responsible for the fuel supply. From the carburetor, the “return” hose is fixed on the hexagon.
Recommendations
Many are wondering which carburetor is better on the ZIL-130? Experts recommend using the "native" modification of the K-88A type. First, it is reliable and unpretentious in service. Secondly, a number of faults can be eliminated independently. They are listed above.
If the breakdown requires more serious intervention, it is better to turn to professionals who will fine-tune the node. Otherwise, the unit may fail completely, and no adjustment will help to restore it. A clogged carburetor does not necessarily lead to a malfunction, but without proper care and maintenance, problems with the car will certainly appear.
How to maintain a carburetor?
To extend the working life of the node in question, you should follow a few simple rules. Every time you service your truck, pay attention to the plugs, plugs, and carburettor connections. All of them must be sealed. Leakage of gasoline from the unit adversely affects its operation.
In addition, with any maintenance, it is necessary to clean the float compartments from the accumulated excess. For this, high-octane gasoline is suitable, inadvanced cases use acetone. Without fail, the washed elements are dried and processed additionally with a soft clean rag.
