Therefore, adjustment is one of the components of the current car repair. Currently, there are many ways to install the ignition on cars. Ignition for cars is set both with the help of a stroboscope and without it.

Working order using the stroboscope

To make adjustments with a stroboscope, you need to prepare a stroboscope, car tool kit, dielectric gloves.

The event for setting the ignition should be carried out onopen space, without visible interference in the form of sunlight. The stroboscope must be in good condition, without mechanical damage, as during work you can get an electric shock.

Stages of work

Setting the ignition timing with a strobe is quite simple. Need:

  1. Carefully read the instructions for safe work with the device.

  3. Connect the device to the battery using special clamps with strict polarity.
  4. Attach the signal cable to the spark plug wire of the first cylinder to form a connection with the device.
  5. When working, it is necessary to prevent wires from getting into rotating units.
  6. Find the white marks on the crankshaft pulley (or flywheel) and engine housing.
  7. Set the gearshift lever to neutral.
  8. Start the engine.
  9. Using dielectric gloves and waiting for the idle speed to stabilize, slightly loosen the bolt for fastening the turns of the distributor.
  10. Use the strobe lamp to highlight previously found marks.
  11. Slowly rotate the distributor body to match the marks.
  12. Turn off the engine.
  13. Turn off the appliance.
  14. Fixing the body of the distributor, you should test the vehicle.

Strobe replacement device

Thanks to the use of this device, it is quite easy to set up the ignition. But there are situations when it is necessary to adjust the lead angle without this device. It is forbidden to carry out work on setting the ignition angle in an enclosed space. Exhaust fumes can be a source of fatal poisoning. Additionally, when carrying out repairs, you will need a medium-sized flashlight in order to protect yourself from getting into the working parts of the car. The device that will replace the stroboscope should be made independently. To do this, you need to take a piece of 15 mm plastic pipe and fix a converging lens on one side. A neon lamp of the TN-0, 3 type must be placed inside the tube. Another type can also be used. The main thing is that it fits in brightness. Two wires must be removed from the lamp, one of which will be connected to the mass of the car, and the second will be wound on the high-voltage wire of the candle of the first cylinder. It is necessary to wind 10 turns over the insulation. The wires must be with a thick wall of insulation, while they are not screwed to the lamp, but soldered.

  1. If the car has air conditioning, you must turn it off. The engine, in turn, should be warmed up to average operating standards, that is, the coolant temperature should be 80 degrees.
  2. After warming up, stop the engine.
  3. Next, the tachometer is connected to the 1st and 15th terminal of the ignition coil. The ignition must be turned off at this point.
  4. The stroboscope connects according to the rules of polarity to the battery. A separate clamp is connected to the I/O wire of the first cylinder.
  5. Next, the hose must be removed from the pressure control valve to vent the engine. It is worth diverting the hose so that in the end only clean air enters it.
  6. Next, you need to start the engine, alternately letting it run both at idle and at high speeds. Once the fan kicks in, leave only idle running.
  7. Disconnect the 2-pole coolant temperature sensor connector. However, turning it off may cause the engine to stop. In this case, when restarting, the connector must be replaced. If this is not done, the ignition timing will be adjusted incorrectly.
  8. If the engine does not stop when the sensor plug is disconnected, it is necessary to let it run at higher speeds.
  9. The light of the strobe lamp should be directed to the crankcase. To avoid damage from the fan, it is first turned off.
  10. If during flashes of the risk of the moment it corresponds to the mark, then it is not necessary to adjust the ignition.

Ignition adjustment on diesel units

In other cases, it may be necessary to adjust the ignition timing. To do this, it is enough to unscrew the locking screw a little and set the position of the distributor so that the mark coincides with the risk. Then tighten the lockingscrews. They must be tightened using a torque wrench to control the tightening force. The torque value should be 25 N/m.

After that, you need to connect the temperature sensor and sharply press the gas pedal three times. Then again look at the coincidence of the marks. In a positive combination of circumstances, measuring instruments should be removed. Do not forget about the previously disabled fan drive.

On VAZ vehicles, setting the ignition timing is quite simple. Even a novice motorist can handle the adjustment.

The engine, as in any case, should be turned off. Next, you need to set the position of the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC, after unscrewing and removing the candles, and plugging the open holes with cotton wool. Next, the HF and risk mark on the ICE cover are combined. Alignment is done by turning the crankshaft with a special key 38 clockwise. As soon as the cotton wool is pushed out of the holes, the shaft is turned slowly until the marks are aligned. It is worth remembering that on VAZ cars there are three marks that correspond to the ignition timing. For example, the first mark indicates a 10 degree ignition advance, the second is 50, and the third corresponds to zero degrees.

VAZ 2107 car with a carburetor engine can run on both 92 and 95 gasoline. Therefore, for these types of fuel,adjust the ignition. To do this, you need to choose an advance angle of 5 degrees. After that, you need to install the candles in place.

Checking performance

Setting the ignition timing of the VAZ-2106 is checked in a simple way: you need to accelerate the car to a speed of 40-50 km / h, turn on the fourth gear and sharply press the gas pedal. If the ignition adjustment was carried out correctly, at this moment characteristic knocks should appear for several seconds. If detonation tapping was not heard, you need to turn the distributor housing clockwise and set the ignition again.
