The long-awaited update of the Ferrari model line: the Ferrari Jeep

Over the past two decades, Ferrari executives have regularly repeated that the famous Italian brand will never be involved in the production of SUVs. The main reason was the unwillingness to spoil the image of the manufacturer of luxurious and expensive sports cars. However, the concern's resistance seems to be soon broken under the yoke of market trends: the British edition of Car, citing its own sources, has informed the world community that work has started on the first Ferrari jeep, the F16X project, in Maranello.

Estimated release date

In 2020, the modern Ferrari GTC4 Luss will be replaced by a large supercar, with which the SUV will be unified. The release of the Ferrari Jeep is planned for 2021. The crossover will be created on the basis of sports models and will borrow from them the main design elements andtechnical units. In terms of dimensions, it will significantly exceed passenger Ferraris and will be offered in a five-door body with doors swinging open against the move.

Specifications

British journalists, relying on secret sources, assure that the Ferrari jeep will not be equipped with a V12 engine: instead, a turbocharged V8 engine, which is used by the company on the GTC4Lusso T, can be considered an innovation. Today, the only hybrid model in the Ferrari lineup is the LaFerrari hypercar.

The Italian concern already has an all-wheel drive version in its arsenal: GTC4Lusso boasts its own 4RM system, which is strikingly different from other transmissions in its design: the front axle has a separate two-stage gear mounted on the front end of the engine. Two packs of wet clutches are used as a differential. The amount of torque transmitted to the front axle can be varied by changing the degree of slip. The first stage of the 4RM transmission is activated while the car is moving in first or second gear, the transition to the second stage is carried out only after the transition of the robotic gearbox to the third or fourth speed. The clutches are opened with a further increase in speed, which makes the car fully rear-wheel drive.

Judging by the assumptions and reviews, the Ferrari Jeep will get this particular transmission. Of course, suchthe car is unlikely to withstand off-road driving, but the image for the Italians is above all.

Ferrari jeep price

The estimated cost of the F16X crossover will be 300 thousand euros or 22.5 million rubles. The launch of the SUV will give the company the opportunity to almost double its sales volume. However, the jeep from the Italians will not become a unique and original car: already this year a serial SUV from Lamborghini should appear on the markets, and the release of Aston Martin DBX is coming a little later. Simply put, in the near future, luxury car manufacturers will please the global auto community with long-awaited versions of SUVs and crossovers.

Is it really the first one?

Despite the fact that motorists are excited by the news about the appearance of the Ferrari jeep, the Italian company itself has repeatedly participated in the creation and production of full-fledged SUVs. So, relatively recently, the best Ferrari Formula 1 drivers - Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso - received two iconic Ferrari Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 SUVs as a gift.

Under the hood of the aggressive crossover hides a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine with a capacity of 468 horsepower. The jeep accelerates to the first hundred in 5 seconds, the maximum speed is kept at around 257 km / h.
