Legends are not born, legends are made. The same can be said about the Dnepr motorcycle. Until recently, the product of the Kyiv Motorcycle Plant traveled all over the country, proudly announcing the streets with the growl of its engine. He could be found in all corners, whether it was the capital or a big city, and he had to visit the village. Everywhere, wherever the glorious Dnepr appeared, one could find its fans. Today, due to the unfair glut of the market with all sorts of Chinese "toys", the Dnepr motorcycle has lost its former popularity. But even now, occasionally, if you search well, you can meet true connoisseurs of history.
Motorcycle "Dnepr 11" - the best model
The motorcycle of the KMZ plant of the eleventh series began its existence since the distant eighties, and the production of this instance ended in a difficult year for the enterprise in 1992.
During its twelve years of non-stop production, the plant was able to meet the growing need for light transport by offering the consumer a quality product. Initially, the eleventh model was created as a prototype of the popular Germanmotorcycle company BMW R71, only slightly modernized in the Soviet way. In general, the motorcycle, although “copied”, turned out to be very personal. And most importantly, the "iron horse" received a unique charisma that distinguishes it from other two-wheeled carriages.
Dimensions
Motorcycle MT "Dnepr" can not be called compact. The dimensions of the MT series have always been impressive, especially the eternal companions of motorcycles - sidecars. Why the plant installed them until the very last days is unknown. After all, without the extra load, Dnipro would play with completely different colors.
And so you have to be content with a thick stern and a lot of weight. The length of the entire motorcycle from the front wheel to the tip of the rear fender is 2500 millimeters. The width, together with the stroller, is 1700 mm (almost a square). The height of the motorcycle is 1100 millimeters. The wheelbase is also nothing - it "stretched" by 1530 millimeters. As you can see, the dimensions are rather big. The weight of the bike is even more intimidating. And no "diet" will help this miracle. With a weight of 335 kilograms, the Dnepr 11 motorcycle becomes the heaviest domestic product of the motorcycle industry.
Classic bike
Motorcycle "Dnepr" is a classic bike. This means that an instance of this model must have corresponding differences.
Classic motorcycles are, first of all, motorcycles for people. They must be comfortable, because their task is associated with long journeys. And first of all, you need to pay attention to the saddle. MT 11 has twotypes of landing chairs: separate and integral. It is clear that the larger the saddle, the better. Therefore, the desirable choice is a one-piece saddle. You can take any comfortable position on it and ride for a long time.
It can be used as a tourist table or something like that. In addition, separate chairs look like bicycle saddles taken from the Soviet bicycle "Ukraine". And this does not fit the style of the "biker" at all. Any chair, whether it is the first or second type, provides a direct fit. This means that the driver does not sit crouched in an arc. A straight fit does not strain your back, and this is very important on a long journey. The only thing that discourages the desire to call the Dnepr motorcycle the standard of the classics is a sidecar that no one needs. It greatly spoils the view, and with the technical performance of this motorcycle, with its convenience, a beautiful view would bring the old Dnepr to the top of glory.
Specifications
Motorcycle "Dnepr" was originally famous for its "combat" characteristics. After all, what else can compensate for the few, but unpleasant mistakes in design and construction. The Dnepr motorcycle engine deserves special attention and respect. At a time when all motorcycles rode on weak two-stroke engines, the Kyiv Motorcycle Plant produced products with four-stroke engines. So, the Dnepr motorcycle has two opposed-type cylinders. As previously indicated, they belong to the four-stroke systems. The engine “eats” gasoline with an octane rating of at least 76 (the best refueling fuel for a motorcycle isthis is AI 80). The cooling system, unfortunately, is of the air type, so in winter you have to seal half of the radiator mesh with oilcloth. In the summer, if it is very hot, there is no other way out to “cool off” near the roadside. The braking system is also limping.
Drum brakes on front and rear wheels. These are outdated and inefficient segments, especially given the heavy weight of the motorcycle.
Tuning
"Dnepr" is remarkable and historical in that it was the first time they looked at it from the wrong angle. To be more precise, the MT series for the first time began to be tuned by craftsmen. They turned a classic bike into an imposing "chopper". Added and replaced segments with newer ones. Electric starter, bent exhaust pipes, disc brakes - all this was redone in garages. Changes occurred with the appearance. The hated stroller was removed. This was already enough to create candy. Paint and symbolic details - and here is a brand new bike proudly rides on the roads.
