In early April of this year, the Shell Eco-Marathon 2013 exhibition took place in the US city of Houston. The main theme of the event was fuel economy in the 21st century. More than 120 teams representing various countries of the world demonstrated their innovative unusual projects. It should be noted that the overwhelming majority of participants are students. Many interesting ideas were shown at the exhibition, but the greatest attention of visitors was riveted to the development of students from Laval University, in the Canadian state of Quebec. The fact is that they created a vehicle that can now proudly bear the title of "the most economical car in the world."

The team took part in the competition for the sixth time in a row, and the last development took her two years. It is impossible not to emphasize the great progress that Canadian students have made during this time, because the car has turned from a conceptual version into a real vehicle. Numerous tests carried out have confirmed that, as oftoday it is really the most economical car. Young people called their creation Alerion Supermileage. Auto made in the form of a drop. This, in turn, makes its aerodynamic performance very close to ideal. As for the fuel consumption of the novelty, its consumption per 100 km is only 0.0654 liters.

According to one of the representatives of the team, initially working on the project was something more than just entertainment. Among other things, students received all the necessary credits for their development. After that, they faced a dilemma: to stop creating an economical car, or, on the contrary, to develop their idea further. Since most of the participants were set for further work, the guys did not stop at their achievement and continued to improve Alerion Supermileage.

Now a little about the development itself. The most economical car in the world is powered by a 3.5 horsepower engine borrowed from a conventional lawn mower. However, in the future, students are going to finalize this node, using a more powerful unit. The model is single. At the same time, getting into the car on your own is unlikely to succeed. The driver will need outside help, which can be called the main disadvantage of the vehicle. Canadians intend to work on its correction and dream of attracting the attention of not only journalists, but also automobile manufacturers. While struggling with the issue of fuel economy, they have it all.preconditions for this.

During the exhibition, a competition was also organized, the purpose of which was to determine the most economical car. The essence of the competition was that the cars had to cover a distance of 9.6 kilometers at a speed of 34 km / h. Next, the jury calculated the amount of fuel that was consumed by each participant, and determined the average consumption. Not surprisingly, the Alerion Supermileage is the winner here. The Canadian team received $2,000 for their development. An interesting fact is that if the students filled their car with all this money, they could cover a distance of 322 thousand kilometers.
