Many car enthusiasts, when they come to the shops that sell car wheels, the question arises of which tires and wheels to choose. To make the right decision, you need to know a lot, including disk parameters. On the same car, you can install wheels with different parameters, however, some widen the track, going beyond the wheel arches, while others narrow it.

Speaking about the parameters of the disks, the first thing to mention is the wheel offset. This is the distance between the plane of application of the disk and the vertical plane of wheel symmetry. It is considered positive if the mating plane does not pass beyond the imaginary plane. Negative - if vice versa, it passes through it.

If we talk about the parameters of the disks, then the wheel offset is perhaps the most important. To determine how big it is, you should measure the B-dimension from the inside of the wheel, as well as the width of the D-wheel rim. Then you need to divide the D-dimension by two and subtract the resulting value from the B-dimension. If the difference turned out to be positive, then the departure is appropriate. Negative - the departure is the same, respectively.

Positive offset refers to how far the rim plane “goes” outward beyond the imaginary plane that passesthrough the middle of the rim. In this case, the wheel is displaced to the longitudinal axis of the machine inward. In a word, the track narrows. It is worth noting that the parameters of VAZ disks, for example, differ in offset, which ranges from 23 to 40.

The center hole should have a diameter that matches the diameter of the landing cylinder that is located on the hub of the machine. It is necessary to make an exact pairing of these dimensions to ensure the centering of the (preliminary) wheel on the hub. This makes it easier to install the bolts. The final centering takes place on conical surfaces.

The next thing worth mentioning when discussing disc parameters is the diameter of the mounting holes. This is the name of the diameter of the circle, which is formed by holes designed for attachment to the wheel hub. There are different diameters and number of holes for different machines.

It should be noted, speaking about the parameters of car rims, that the wheel must be checked on the vehicle even before it is assembled with the tire.
