When creating a car, any company is least of all guided by the opinion of journalists and critics, because the main thing for them is profit, which means that buyers are at the forefront. Progress does not stand still, and Porsche is no exception. The third generation Porsche Cayenne was recently released (year of manufacture - 2018), an overview of which we will present in this article.
Design
This part of the car has not changed much, although the overall dimensions of the Porsche Cayenne have grown. Even base Cayennes have active shutters on all radiators, and the Turbo was also equipped with a lift-up rear spoiler. Modern technologies also influenced the design somewhat, as the large display that the media system is equipped with forced the ventilation deflectors to be moved down.
In the interior of the salon there is the same essential detail - a wide and high tunnel. On theit - varnished touch buttons with sound feedback, and some have physical feedback. They can respond to touch when wearing thin gloves, and this is more suitable from the point of view of aesthetics, because the varnished buttons are quickly covered with prints, they often have to be wiped. To do this, it is best to use special wipes for digital technology and avoid contact with abrasive products.
All the materials used in the interior trim are of very high quality, everything is professionally selected, none of the interior details "stands out" from the general gamut and style. Smooth seams, the same gaps. There are three rear-view mirrors in the car, but they are all medium-sized, which cannot be said about the windshield cleaning zone - it is simply huge. The rear wiper is turned on by a small button on the end of the lever.
Features
Specifications The third generation Porsche Cayenne is a 2.9, 3.0 and 4.0 petrol engine, respectively, for the three existing configurations, with a power of 440 hp. With. (S), 340 l. With. (for a hybrid), 550 l. With. (for Turbo). Transmission automatic eight-speed, four-wheel drive.
Dimensions "Porsche Cayenne" - 4918 x 1983 x 1696.
Touch panels
Of course, high technology is great. Cars with huge touch screens look like technology that came to us from the future: stylish, practical, technologically advanced. However, there is a downside to the coin, and again, all this is reflected precisely in the owners. Speaking of sensorycontrol panels in a Porsche Cayenne car, the reviews of the owners are somewhat contradictory. Someone is completely satisfied with the car and does not see any shortcomings in it, but for some this way of driving seemed inconvenient, and they explain why. The fact is that the touch control panel cannot be handled "blindly".
That is, to turn on, for example, seat heating, you have to take your eyes off the road for a second or two. Gone are the days when a driver who knew his car to the smallest detail could reach out and turn on the right button without even looking at it. Okay, so what do we get in practice? Considering that, according to the characteristics of the Porsche Cayenne, it accelerates to 286 km / h, then two seconds is about one hundred and fifty meters of blind driving! Of course, there are few places where you can accelerate at such a speed without violating traffic rules, but in any case, hardly anyone wants to have fun with a media system at such a speed.
Is it comfortable?
Let's say the touchpad is inconvenient at high speed, but at slow speed it should be leveled? No matter how. The new Porsche Cayenne, judging by the reviews, disappointed the owners a little with so many touch buttons. Given the quality of the road surface in our country, and the car itself, which is an SUV, it is difficult to imagine how to hit the touch buttons when shaking on a bad road.
In general, either it's people who are used to physical buttons on second-generation cars, do not want changes, but will later appreciate the "sensing"Cayenne panels, or Porsche engineers and designers really miscalculated a bit, and we should expect restyling in the future.
But the basic ergonomics, of course, is beyond praise. The chairs are incredibly comfortable, and the selector of the machine, although not fixed, does not cause inconvenience.
On the road
The engine is started by a lever to the left of the steering wheel. Optionally, the buyer can add an air suspension to the car (if he buys the base "Cayenne", it is already in more expensive trim levels). Active stabilizers are also available only with a surcharge for all trim levels except "Turbo". For the first time, a rear steering mechanism costing one hundred and forty thousand rubles was used on this model.
The new Porsche Cayenne is indeed very fast, but the feeling of speed is smoothed out. There is a slight hitch in the reaction to the gas pedal and steering wheel, however, in general, the car steers well and sharply, regardless of the configuration, the steering wheel makes just over two turns from lock to lock. However, you should not expect that the "steering wheel" can be turned with one finger, you will have to make some efforts, and they increase when entering a non-steep arc. However, Porsche engineers probably did this on purpose so that the driver could better feel the car's handling at speed.
The brakes are quite tight, but very tenacious, they work tightly, but the pedal has a short travel. "Porsche Cayenne" is equipped with three-chamber air springs, even in the baseconfiguration, but the settings are different. In theory, the work of three cameras should make the suspension softer than the previous "single-chamber" was, and when you turn off the two cameras, it should, accordingly, become stiffer. However, the suspension of all the initial Cayennes cannot be called soft, the driver and passenger will feel all the bumps, although strong discomfort will be felt only when driving fast on a dirt road. In the S version, the steering is tight, but it steers pretty accurately. Although the dimensions of the Porsche Cayenne may seem too large, but the "Cayenne" dynamo can be compared with sports cars.
The lock cylinder on the driver's door is hidden under the handle. In addition, there is the option of contactless access.
Off-road
The third generation has lost its reduced speed, however, according to the owners, the Porsche Cayenne does not give up on the roads. Despite the length of the Porsche Cayenne, which is almost five meters, nothing interferes with it when driving off-road, and all thanks to the fact that the bottom of the front is slightly beveled, and there are practically no protruding elements.
There are four off-road modes, they can be switched using the touch menu. How convenient it is - the owners decide. The main thing to do when driving off-road is to raise the suspension to 245 mm (this is the maximum "Cayenne" value). In the most difficult places, it's easier to rely on cruise control, the "off-road" version of which is switched by the main lever. When switching toit instantly becomes even tougher, but the electronics do their job, protecting the car even from diagonal distortions.
Trunk
Dimensions "Porsche Cayenne" in the third generation increased, and the volume of the trunk increased by one hundred liters. And that's really a lot. In the technical specifications, 770 liters are declared for the luggage compartment, but this figure also includes the "underground". The rear sofa is not even, ergonomically more suitable for two passengers, however, the dimensions of the Porsche Cayenne actually allow three passengers to be placed in the back seat. However, the seated person in the middle will be less comfortable.
Salon
In the cabin, both passengers and the driver feel free, there is a supply of space in each of the directions. The seats are adjustable, and their ventilation is optionally added. Four-season climate control is optional, and it works well at any setting. By the way, the settings are separated, so you can separately adjust the distribution of air flows, temperature and blowing intensity, and this is an important function, given the overall dimensions of the Porsche Cayenne and the large interior. With these settings, none of the passengers will be "deprived" of the climate control.
So are there any disadvantages?
Pretty much everything we've said about this car has been positive, but are there any downsides to it? Owner reviews of the Porsche Cayenne indicate that there are disadvantages in the car. First of all, thiscomplaints about electronics. Sometimes when driving, even on a new car, errors “pop up”, for example, a message may pop up telling the driver about a “wheel lock failure”. The Cayenne media system has its own Internet connection, so the navigator focuses only on it.
Navigator doesn't always work flawlessly. In particular, such a "glitch" happens: the navigator starts constantly saying that the driver has arrived at the destination. Whether this is due to poor reception and communication quality or is it a system flaw is unclear.
Another of the "glitches" described by drivers is the activation of the Check Engine lamp when manipulating the mode shifter, which is mounted on the steering wheel. There may also be slight creaking in the interior panels.
