What is armored film and why is it needed?

Many people immediately associate with real armor. Of course, this film will not protect against bullets, but it has enough other positive qualities.

The characteristics of the material differ depending on the manufacturer. The film for armoring the body has a different thickness and color, however, for the purpose of protection, it is mainly used transparent. The main functions are protection from minor damage and the negative effects of the environment, which include:

According to technical specifications, armored film for cars made of vinyl is used for pasting convex and concave body elements, as well as for optics. It is dense, produced using casting technology, so it is very durable and flexible. Vinyl film protects the paintwork well not only from damage, but also from fading. Its thickness is approximately 100 microns.

Polyurethane material is more expensive. This film has a better quality than vinyl. Polyurethane is stronger, has an average thickness of 200 microns and, unlike the previous version, does not tear. The only negative is that it is porous and transmits ultraviolet rays. On the other hand, the paintwork burns out evenly over the entire surface of the body.

The film of both types is easily dismantled, no separate pieces remain on the paintwork. Since the material is produced on an adhesive basis, the body mayremain glue, which is easily removed with silicone.

Protective coating can be applied both to the entire body and optics, and to its individual elements. Armored film is expensive, so many car owners choose the partial wrapping option, which focuses on the most vulnerable elements:

1. Washing and degreasing the surface on which the film will be glued.
2. Applying a specialized fluid that provides adhesion of the material to the paintwork.
3. Laying a pattern pre-cut on a plotter. The film is applied to the center of the element, and then with a scraperdistributed towards the edges. At the same time, it is necessary to warm it up with a hair dryer to ensure a strong attachment to the paintwork.
4. The bubbles remaining under the film are removed with a scraper, and if the instrument is unable to correct such a defect, an insulin syringe can be used.
