Armored film today is a real treasure for motorists. It allows you to keep the paintwork in good condition, and owners of not only new cars, but also those with mileage resort to this. The film for booking really deserves a lot of attention, as it is a unique protective tool.
What is armored film and why is it needed?
Many people immediately associate with real armor. Of course, this film will not protect against bullets, but it has enough other positive qualities.
The characteristics of the material differ depending on the manufacturer. The film for armoring the body has a different thickness and color, however, for the purpose of protection, it is mainly used transparent. The main functions are protection from minor damage and the negative effects of the environment, which include:
- scratches;
- light blows;
- insect damage;
- corrosion, rust.
Armoredthe film of some manufacturers has a porous structure and transmits ultraviolet light, so that the paint burns out evenly. Being transparent, it is almost invisible on the car and does not spoil the aesthetic appearance.
It is worth noting that such a protective coating is not able to protect the paintwork from dents received in an accident. The elastic film only dissipates the impact over the entire surface of the body, thereby reducing the pressure on the area affected by the collision and protecting the paintwork from damage.
Varieties of film for booking
The material is different, but most often masters use vinyl and polyurethane in their practice. According to technical specifications, armored film for cars made of vinyl is used for pasting convex and concave body elements, as well as for optics. It is dense, produced using casting technology, so it is very durable and flexible. Vinyl film protects the paintwork well not only from damage, but also from fading. Its thickness is approximately 100 microns.
Polyurethane material is more expensive. This film has a better quality than vinyl. Polyurethane is stronger, has an average thickness of 200 microns and, unlike the previous version, does not tear. The only negative is that it is porous and transmits ultraviolet rays. On the other hand, the paintwork burns out evenly over the entire surface of the body.
The film of both types is easily dismantled, no separate pieces remain on the paintwork. Since the material is produced on an adhesive basis, the body mayremain glue, which is easily removed with silicone.
Car Wrap Method
Protective coating can be applied both to the entire body and optics, and to its individual elements. Armored film is expensive, so many car owners choose the partial wrapping option, which focuses on the most vulnerable elements:
- hood front (40-50cm);
- bumper;
- wings symmetrically to the hood;
- mirrors;
- lights;
- cup handles.
Additionally, drivers are encouraged to protect the thresholds, trunk strip, pillars and part of the roof, headlights and foglights from chips and scratches.
Everything that was listed above is the so-called standard kit offered by specialized centers.
Armored film for a car is applied to the body or its individual elements in compliance with a certain technology. If you do not follow the rules of pasting, dirt, lint and debris will remain under the coating, which will negatively affect not only the condition of the paintwork, but also the appearance of the car.
The booking procedure is carried out in several stages:
- Washing and degreasing the surface on which the film will be glued.
- Applying a specialized fluid that provides adhesion of the material to the paintwork.
- Laying a pattern pre-cut on a plotter. The film is applied to the center of the element, and then with a scraperdistributed towards the edges. At the same time, it is necessary to warm it up with a hair dryer to ensure a strong attachment to the paintwork.
- The bubbles remaining under the film are removed with a scraper, and if the instrument is unable to correct such a defect, an insulin syringe can be used.
Armored film for cars: reviews
Over time, the protection of the body with anti-gravel coating is becoming more and more popular. Booking does not protect against large stones, and the blow received in an accident will still violate the integrity of the body. Nevertheless, the film perfectly protects against scratches that can be obtained by tree branches, chips from stones, and harmful insects. Thanks to the reservation, you can save the original state of the paintwork for many years.
Many motorists are advised to pay attention to polyurethane material. It is more expensive, but the quality is many times superior to the vinyl film. A huge plus is that the polyurethane is elastic and does not tear like its opponent, which can literally break on the first blow.
